Boycott Cedar Fair

pointperson's avatar

I have heared a few people say that they will be boycotting Cedar Fair parks because of the miss handlement of Geauga Lake.

I personally am sad of the closing of Geauga Lake but my love for Cedar Point, Kings Island and all the other parks will shine thew. I don't think I would ever boycott a park even a Six Flags park just because they closed a park that I liked.

What do you think about this idea? Will you be boycotting Cedar Fair?

I feel the same way as you do. It's too bad about GL, but I love CP too much to ever stay away from it because of something CF does outside to another park.

Besides, the amount of people boycotting isn't enough to even faze CF. Most of the general public probably didn't even realize that CP and GL were owned by the same company.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

The thread title seems to suggest that you are trying to organize a boycott. When I saw it, I got a little bit concerned. Perhaps a change of wording is in order?

The people that say that they will be boycotting are full of it. I could bet a good sum of money most of them will be returning to Cedar Point next summer. Heck, some of them have already broke there word (coasterdad is a good example). So anyways, yeah they are full of it.

I, of course, will never boycott Cedar Fair Entertainment Company because there is no reason to. Cedar Fair made a difficult choice with their decision to close the amusement side of Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom. I think that we all need to respect their decisions. Also, a park can't stay open for forever (except Cedar Point :) ). You have to say goodbye sometime.

You want irony...during Halloweekends there were groups wearing boycott Cedar Fair shirts...or Death to Kinzel....I mean come on, how dumb can you get to go to a place where you're trying to boycott. Retards.

I'm surprised that they were allowed to wear shirts saying "Death to Kinzel." That's a pretty horrible message to be sending in a family-oriented park. I have to believe that those shirts violated CP's dress code. And that would be if it said just a normal person's name, much less the CEO of the company!

Boycotting the park is going to magically put all the coasters back.

You're Right, and most people don't even know what Cedar Fair is. In fact, most people around where I live think Michigan's Adventure is owned by Cedar Point.

I know people that worked at Michigan's Adventure that said it was owned by Cedar Point. I always correct them and say that Cedar Fair L.P., more commonly known as Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, owns the park.

I agree...I mean even the SFAW fanboys didn't cry "conspiracy" at every turn when their home park closed at the end of 2005.Sure they were upset about it but look at how many of them have since gone to SFFT & SFOT in the two years since SFAW closed despite claiming they'd never visit another SF park again.

Another thing is that GL didn't close completely like SFAW did, they will simply remain a waterpark only facility simply because that's where the bulk of the crowds were.It made no financial sense to invest in a ride park that nobody was patronizing to begin with.

I think its not the park closing thats making everyone this upset, its the way CF handled the situation. I personally think that they could have gone about closing the park (its sad, but an understandable must) in such a better way. That is what people are more angry about.

I think it all comes down to the old problem of Big Dick and his thinkers always figuring that they know better than anyone else what the market wants.
Rather than keep rides that people (gasp) have an emotional attachment to, or build some charming family-type rides (WWL V2.0?) they have to put in something that will only appeal to teenagers who drive in, misbehave, vandalize the restrooms, and spend no $$$.

Can't they figure out that this strategy isn't paying off?
Look GL was a hole. Some of the rides, however, were important to people. If they would somehow keep the rides at a nearby park, put it on the news, send out press releases, the positive press would gain them a lot of goodwill.

But what do we know? We're a bunch of internet dweebs. They're running the nations 3rd biggest (failing) amusement park chain....

Can I get one of those shirts???

Stop saying that every teenager does these things. You know nothing about this generation, except that a couple of misfits did something you didn't like and now we're ALL to blame. ALL the future doctors, engineers and other positive influences on society are to blame.

^ Amen. We're not all like that. Some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet are teenagers right now.

We're not all bad. Honest. I know I personally don't do anything like that. And hey, that's coming from someone who's 15. Then again, I'm probably more mature than anyone should be at my age...

Well I believe that even if they were notified in advance that the ride park would be closing they'd still be just as mad & making up the same conspriacy theories as to why it closed & just looking to blame someone for it...the SFAW fanboys did very much the same thing.

I am really upset with the way Geauga LAke was handled! I had a feeling that the park was going to close within the next few years, but I did not exspect it to go like that! My protest is how the whole thing was handled without giving people a chance to say goodbye! I will continue to go to Cedarpoint and Kings Island next year because I do love my Ohio parks! My family and I are planning a trip to California next summer and I am going to check out Knotts Berry Farm. I know that it won't be the same as Geauga Lake which was the park closest to me and what I grew up going to, but I want my Kids to enjoy the thrill of the coasters like I do and my dad who grew up 1.5 miles from Euclid Beach. He is now 80 years old and plans to travel to the parks and the coasters with us next summer along with my mother-in law who loves the coasters too!
