Frontier Lift

Where did the frontier lift start and stop (in present day CP).

The lift ran from 1968 to 1985.  One of it's stations was where the Iron Dragon station is today.  The other one is that one fancy looking bathroom next to Snake River.  I found this on www.pointhype.com/cponle/index.html This is a very cool site with lots of CP history.

Yah, I also wish they still had something like that.  I usually take the train to avoid the long walk.  I wish they had something that went from the area near the back Sky Ride station that would take you back toward the Gemini area.

Actualy, rob, there is not much in there. I was in there a few times this summer and the only remaining items of the frontier lift are the dock box(with names of peeps that used to work the ride all over it)the arows painted on the floor, and some i beams that used to have the ride mounted to them. Park operations keeps items such as measuring devices for the rides and cleaning supplies inside there, also electrical supplies such as bulbs and thing are in a sepperate room up there.
anyone else haver old pictures (or know of any) of the frontier lift??

There is one picture in the history section of that web page I mentioned in a previous post.

Actually, for whoever misses the Frontier Lift to reduce the tedious walk time between the midway and Frontier Town, don't feel too bad.  The Frontier Lift regularly had a 30 minute or longer wait time.  It was always faster to walk.

CP fan since 68.

Yeah but still, you didn't have to walk!!

(I'm sooo lazy)!!!!

My thought.....try to get to the area you want to go to, as quickly as possible. The faster you get there, the more time you have to ride the rides!  :)

Excuse me, where is the 10:00 Laser Show Presented by FirstEnegry??

yea, but it was one of the few peaceful breaks, especially at night. There is nothing to compare now...
crashoverride, Actually that's a error on that website. By looking at pictures in my collection and in the gallery on this site, the Frontier Lift had a box type cable cars similar to what the Sky Ride uses. The link you gave show, I belive, cars that are from Dorney Park and I belive rumor was it that those were supposed to go into Camp Snoopy(Someone please correct me if I am wrong).
If you want the some nice pictures, visit the gallery section on this site. There are several history pictures from members of this site there.
Also I belive if you do a search, a few months back someone actually used some aerial shots of the park and drew lines where the Frontier Lift would be.

Nope.. you're right Andrew...

The cars were the same as the ones currently used. The ones int he pic are the ones from Dorney... and .. well.. who knows where they may show up ;)

The Frontier Lift, the old trail, and the Western Cruise are all parts of Cedar Point I miss badly.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the gondolas now used on the Sky Ride were taken from the Frontier Lift after it closed (and painted, of course).  Seems to me I read that long ago.  If that's true, I'm not certain what became of the original Sky Ride gondolas.

Does Anyone Know The Real Reason Why The Frontier Lift Closed?

I think it closed specifically because people can now walk to Frontier whereas before the walkways the only way to get there was the lift or the train.  Why spend money keeping a lift going that is really not needed anymore.

True..very true.....And half the fun is bragging how much you walked just to ride the mine ride :)
