Does anyone know if Cedar Point has been opened prior to May? Every year I've gone it's never been opened any earlier then May.

Then again it's never been opened past October until now...

Seeing how empty the park is during the first few weeks of May and how everyone is still in school, I don't see why the park would ever open in April.

Just because it is nice out doesn't mean the park should be open. It's more complicated than that, obviously.

Late fall is just about as bad as early spring. They're open in October. That weather is similar to March/April weather. Geez.

They stay open in October. Why? Because they can. They can't in early spring because schools are still in session.

Everyone is using September and October as an example, but does anyone think the park would be nearly as busy during those months if it wasn't for the heavy advertising of the Halloweekend events?

OK, I'll correct you. School is in session in September and October too so that arguement doesn't fly.

The reason they can stay open on weekends until NOVEMBER now is they have an event to promote it and large crowds.

This is exactly my point. Why not come up with an event to open a couple weekends earlier and draw some crowds and sell season passes?

I think Gomez is right. Since they advertise September and October so much, the park is busier than it would be without advertising. It also helps that Halloweekends is on the weekends so the crowds are fixed on one day, not spread out throughout the week.

That's a good idea. Maybe something Easter related? Like an Easter egg hunt, with a large selection of kids' rides open and a limited number of thrill rides. There could be costumed characters, of course including the Easter bunny, but perhaps also with some of his friends. (The Holiday Armadillo comes to mind. )

The problem is that CP is accustomed to having all of early spring to get the park ready for opening day. This kind of event would really throw a monkey wrench into all that work. So it would have to be a hefty event with a significant turnout to justify it.

And like it was mentioned before, the most of the employees are still in college doing finals in late April. People study on the weekends too.

I'm pretty sure we officially broke the streak at Lansing too. 170ish days between 70 degree temps!

There are other parks in CF's ownership that open for two, three or more weekends before they have a seven-week operation (example: Kings Island, Worlds of Fun and Dorney Park). Why can Cedar point try this one season to see how it goes?

The only thing I could think of is the shear size of Cedar Points operation and getting it ready. I know they used to open on a Saturday and Sunday, close a week, then their full operation would start the following week. Its just never happened before May.

Yeah, it's so easy to get college kids to stick around and work through October, so it'd be a piece of cake to get them to come early during their exams and everything. Brilliant!

But, again, it goes back to the parks' workforce. Many of the employees at those parks are high school students. They are certainly supplemented with college students, but ratio is far different than it is at Cedar Point.

I think they should be opened in april, they talk about no having enough money?? why not promote something new for the spring months. like loops said earlier, they get away with it in october why not april. I would think people would be a lot more anxious to get out and to things outside in april more so then in october.
