How it feels to have your stuff stolen at The Point

this is the account of the wonderful weekend my fiancée and I had at "The Point" for the reunion.

So I travel all the way from NYC to the Cedar Point reunion on
Saturday, and what happens but my bag (it was a black fanny pack from
Target, hardly something designer/enticing) gets stolen from the
Mantis bins during the two minutes I'm coastering. That's the ride I
worked on for two years! Car keys, hotel keys, $, regular glasses,
prescription sunglasses, reunion tickets are immediately gone, but
I'm thinking 'oh it was an honest mistake' since the bag is
nondescript. HAHAHA.

Well, since the car key chain has keyless entry (the kind where you
click it, and the horn beeps to identify the car in the parking lot)
-- and the hotel keys are in the bag -- CP Police assist us in
getting into the car and getting a locksmith to make a new key -- and
also calls our hotel to tell them to put our room in lockdown. Once
we get the car taken care of -- and no one has turned anything in
after the park closes -- we see the shattered glass of windshields
driving through the parking lot. Hello, vandalism. Yikes! And then,
we race back to the hotel to check out immediately because we don't
want the car to be stolen either while we're packing up or overnight
thanks to the keyless entry that would identify the car. Lo and
behold, there is a shady guy who seems to be waiting for something in
the lobby.

While security was helpful, it freaks me out that the place I would
consider myself to be safest um ... is not. With hotel,
transportation, replacing everything, tickets, etc., it's easily
stacking up to be a $1500-2000 trip.

I never remember anyone having this happen with the bins -- does this
happen often? Very scary.

I've used the bins countless times at Cedar Point on various rides and I can say that nobody ever stole anything from me or my boyfriend. That's quite unfortunate that you plan on a nice weekend trip only to find out all of your very important items have been taken from you.

Makes me wonder if I should keep using the bins again though. But I'm very sorry you lost all that stuff.

I've been to Cedar Point 5 times so far this year and haven't had an incident like that happening before.

That really stinks that you had your trip ruined like that. Hopefully you sharing your story will at least encourage others to keep their keys (and key remotes) in their pockets while on rides. It is a real shame that you can trust your belongings in a somewhat supervised bin for 2 minutes while on a roller coaster.

Besides having your stuff stolen, it sounds like CP actually assisted you in every way they could after the incident. The same thing could have happened at a grocery store if you had left valuables where someone could take them for 2 minutes unsupervised. It's unfortunate and ruined what would have been a good weekend, but I don't think it's anything negative on the park.

Unfortunately there are just some crummy people in this world.

I had my wallet either stolen or lost on a ride. For some reason I think it fell out while on the Magnum platform.

If it wasn't stolen it is in the Mantis pond.

We had a quarter of a grand on us, my debit card, credit card, the girlfriends debit card, our season passes, and other things you would have in a wallet.

CP was as helpful as they well...could be. Basically saying if it shows up it shows up. I try and get them to do a little more because at this point in time we live in Michigan and have no money to get home.

Sounds like they did everything they could for you.

You seen vehicles with busted out windows in the parking lot? I have never once seen people actually steal things in the parking lot (we park in soak city).

What about the shady guy in the lobby?

Also to be fair...I have found money..almost every time I go to the point.

If memory serves me correct we have found (2) twenty dollar bills, and a five dollar bill. On the midways...people walking over them as if they do not even see them.

I wasn't going to turn it in because its a twenty dollar bill. You can't ID that.

We're trying to run a society here. It's really sad that there is always a need for more security to protect us from....us. It's not that difficult to just be friendly, curtious, on on on here I go ranting...

It really shocks me to hear of windshields that have been smashed in in the parking lot.

Not that I am the ruler of the point and I go there everyday...but everytime I do go to the point I might go out to the parking lot and have a smoke in the car. I don't like to carry them on me in the park, and it can be rude to people who do not smoke still to smoke by them.

Anyways, in Soak City at least (which is closer to many employee facilities), there is constant traffic from Cedar Point personnel and such. I have even seen a police officer just watching the parking lot before.

The front parking lot can be a different story as it is probably a mile long......but I don't seem to think it would be possible unless it was in the front lot.

The majority of the general public parks in the fronte lot. So that is where most of the vadalism takes place.

I wear a fanny pack every time I go to Cedar Point. The only things I put in those bins are things I've bought while in the park (souvenier cups, photos, prizes,ect.). That stuff can be replaced. I wear my fanny pack (Cedar Point pack of course!) on every ride and it has never fallen off. It is unfortunate that happened but next time just keep it on your waist. I usually carry my cigarettes, lighter, cell phone, money, car keys and ID all in my small pack and can still push it off to the side to make room for the restraint bars.

^^I thought most cigarette smokers didn't carry lighters (and sometimes even cigarettes) and always asked other people (mostly non-smokers who are clearly not smoking) for lights and a cigarette?! And they usually ask in places that are clearly NOT designated smoking areas like ride queues or food stand lines!

Yes, and all Christians are fanatical and in your face, all Islamic people are terrorists, all Italians are in mobs, everyone in the south is a redneck, and all republicans kick puppies.
