Calypso and Turnpike Cars land

I was wondering about this area being used for something other than being a part of the big project slated for the theater and dodgem area.

Since the entry gate still passes between these areas, I could see these 2 spaces being treated as separate projects.

Perhaps something that breathes a little bit of interest back toward the Blue Streak which I love.

I think a mini GCI woodie would be very cool right next to Blue streak.

I think the land of GTT, Calypso, Turnpike, Dodgems and Cedars could all be part of a major several year project. I could see a new coaster, family ride, BS Midway extension and improvements to Celebration plaza all happening over the next few years. I think the marina entrance is likely to get a refresh as well. That new gate could take you right on to a new midway.

Looking that the map that was posted yesterday, that is really lots of land. I could picture it being for a multi-year project, or multiple rides.

I picture that big, new dive coaster going right under the new Marina walkway, which will really be a bridge. A pathway will interact with various portions of the ride. The bridge can also be used as a vantage point for Illuminations. The ride, sadly, will shut down for the show.
How's that?

I'm fine with the big, new dive coaster shutting down for the show. A bottle of wine from Les Vins de France and Illuminations, always a perfect end to a day in the park. :-)

If Cedar Point is indeed adding Illuminations they must maintain the general pre-show ambience surrounding World Showcase lagoon. They'll need much more cleared space to pull it off, but I'm all for it.

What map?

Nice "map" of announced changes here.

Now that Calypso has been moved and Turnpike Cars are gone, the BS midway is even more of a dead zone.

OH MY GOD, did I say Illuminations? LMAO! So sorry, what a slip...

"And a special shoutout to those people gathering around the fire roughly 1,100 miles to the North, in Sandusky, Ohio, who are also watching our show via a bridge over a B&M Dive Coaster"

The Blue Streak will now be more deserted than ever if no other changes are made at least for this season alone. I think just having a cool sign on the midway under Raptor just having an arrow with "Blue Streak this way" would bring more people over to ride it. I also think we will see a new marina entrance moved to where Calypso stands now.

I have to think that moving Calypso and removing Turnpike Cars and Good Times Theater are steps in a plan for that part of the park. How that plan will play out only Cedar Fair knows.

I work in a box office and recently took a call from someone wondering if the two tickets he bought online -- row R, seat 14 and row S, seat 5 -- were next to each other. So I can't help but think there are those in the world who miss the seemingly obvious; a sign pointing to the roller coaster just off the Midway through the Raptor underpass would be a good thing.

If you look at the 1969 map that was posted here recently you can see there was an entrance where Calypso used to be. I hope that they don't move it there, as it would increase the distance to Famous Dave's and the rest of that pier.

I think all of your questions have been solved in today's blog post! https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/New-Announcements

New for 2018... RMC Iron Horse!!!

I still think that "leaked" dive coaster rumor from the Sandusky Register could be true. Whenever they've released unannounced park info before, it pretty much turns out to be accurate.

But as whole, I'm going to say that it's for that midway expansion idea I've had for a few years. Cedars Dorms will also come down, Perimeter Rd will be rerouted, and a new midway will connect the Blue Streak midway from Calypso's current location to near the bleachers in Celebration Plaza. This is just one rough possible idea of what it could be. As you can see, having a whole multi year expansion in addition to the dive coaster is possible...I'm not the best at Photoshop and stuff like that but I inserted an image of Sheikra and it fits perfectly and still allows for plenty of room. The blue indicates the Perimeter Road reroute, the red indicates the new midway, you can obviously see the image of Sheikra and how it does not even interfere with Cadillac Cars and Raptor, and then the green areas indicate free space for future attractions.

In the area formerly occupied by the dorms, I could see some type of out-and-back GCI or GG wooden coaster. Its station would be near the new midway merge by the bleachers, its lift hill would run parallel to the new midway, it would turn around in the strip of land between the midway and Perimeter Road (near Calypso's former location) and then will come back into the dorms area for a twister finale. I could see the new dive coaster's entrance plaza along with a few new shops/eating areas and seating in the small space by Raptor, to the right of where the new midway would connect to the Blue Streak midway. Then the other free space where the Goodtime Theatre used to be would be used for several new flat rides and another landscaped seating area.

Or they could move Perimeter Road away from the Bay rather than toward, consolidate back office operations there, and use the space that opened elsewhere in the park for new attractions.

This is just about what I thought that could do with the area. They could build the dive coaster and it would still leave significant room for more expansion(dark ride, new show venue, shops, or family attractions) As for a GCI also, it is hard for me to believe they would put two coasters in this area but anything is possible. This area opens large possibilities for the future of Cedar Point.

Interesting that Blue Streak is all alone back there now....that's all that is back there....Blue Streak...that's it...
