Cedar Point 5k

Does anyone know when they release details and registration dates for the Chris Smith Memorial 5k? I always seem too hear about it too late and after hotel prices have skyrocketed.

Isn't that a summer (June) event? If so, I wouldn't expect any details to be released until the start of the new season (or shortly beforehand) at the earliest. If you can figure out who the race director is (i.e., whoever does the timing/coordination of the event) it's possible they have the date on a calendar.

Perfect Thank you! Everything I was finding was previous results and I couldn't locate the facilitator's info. I forgot about the 10K & half. Cant think of a better location to do my first half.

Just a word of caution, the half course at Carowinds this year was short over a mile and the 10k was roughly a half mile short. Everyone was kind of pissed post race that they didn't actually run as far as they were supposed to, leading to shorter times than everyone expected. I ended up finishing the 10k about 5 minutes more quickly than I figured I would, but only because the course was at least a half mile shorter than what it should have been.

I'm not sure if that's something common at all their events. But, it was rather disappointing and takes away from the experience.

Did they give a reason why? Or acknowledge it at all?

Typically there is no official reason/apology issued in my experience when things like that happen (and they do happen). A mile is on the excessive end; the typical problem is mile markers being placed in the wrong spot throwing off any pacing one might be trying to do, or a course being a tenth of a mile (or two) too long or short.

If the race you sign up for says "This course is USTFA certified", it will be correct. If not, it was measured by a guy who does not know what he is doing.

I guess I am just use to Disney races. It is always the length the say and if for some reason they have to shorten a race, you are made very aware of the situation.

For what it's worth, I've only heard positive reviews of the races at CP. The Disney runs are extraordinarily managed; I'd love to get a "goofy" medal. 😊

For those who like to run, don't forget about the Santa Hustle at Cedar Point on Dec. 20th, that is a very fun event.

My GF is doing the half, and I'm doing the 5K - planning on staying at Castaway Bay overnight

How many people have run in the races the last two years?

Does it have a significant affect on overall attendance for the weekend?

I'll be running my first ever race, the Indianapolis Mini Marathon, a month before this, and would love to do this one, especially since admission is included.

Last year at Cedar Point the 5k on Saturday had 450 finishers. On Sunday the combined total for the 10k and half was 864. So, a total of 1314 runners. I would assume around half of them had a plus one with them and say the total impact of the event was 2000 people.

Thanks!

Thanks Kevinj but my first half at CP dreams have been dashed. I'm still recovering from a November injury that took me out of training for my first 10 that would've been on Thanksgiving. Still looking forward to the run in June , don't know yet if it will be a 5 or 10.

Cedar Point was my first of four half marathons last year. Great experience for the most part. Start and finish area were great for a race of its size. The first 3 ish miles are inside the park. Best part of the race. After that its straight of the causeway and then down into Sandusky and back. That part honestly got a little boring but you make due with what ya have. Flat Flat Flat. Only elevation was the little bump you get going across the causeway. Would have loved if there were some way to incorporate the ring road around the point just to add some variety and to be near the park. Good to see that Jason McClure (sp?) ran the race last year and I was able to run into him after the race. One of the better medals I got last year. By far the heaviest. Looks like all the different cedar fair races get the same medal with different ribbons depending on the park.

I think I might due the kings island one next year. Looks like its a double loop race that is almost entirely ran within the park. Be nice to try something different.

Well, thanks to a training injury, my GF had to back out of the half. Sucks that she can't do it - but oh well.

So, I'm assuming the race finishes outside the park, and you don't get early admission just by running?

My wife and I are running the 10k and are exploring our options of staying at a CP hotel or somewhere else. But early entry is really the only reason I'd care to pay the extra cost of staying at a Hotel Breakers or any of the others. Though it would also be nice to be able to walk back there and shower before the rest of the day in the park.
