Cedar Point Historical Memoribilia

Sunday, November 27, 2011 2:08 AM

Hey everyone...I've been trying to compile some historical documents from the park to aid in some model building that I'm doing. I've been able to locate a ton of documents from the 1980s to the present, but anything before that is really hard to find. Does anyone have any old maps, pictures or park guides that they would be willing to share? Walt, I also seem to remember that you had some old maps and brochures on the site back when it was virtual midway. Do those still exist? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help everyone!

Adam, you might want to see a doctor about that cough. I wouldn't want to see it turn into pneumonia ;)

I collect old Cedar Point souvenier maps :) My favorite is my 1978 one. I will see if I can get some pictures on here to show you in the next few days. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner so it might not show up perfectly

That's alright...even pictures would be amazing. Maps from the 70s or earlier would be great to see.

1969 is the oldes souviner map I have ever seen. This is what the park guides of the 50's looked like. Before that you mostly just have areial shots. But, I wouldn't trust those too much as it appears as though they recycled them for a long time.

Looks like someone broke their toe. I find it funny that they're complaining about Cedars sixty years ago. :)

That 1969 Map is amazing. It's neat to see that Frontier Town was it's own area, only accessed by the railroad or the Frontier Lift. I never knew that there was once a separate entrance gate in the front where Demon Drop used to be. Also, anyone notice "Safari Island"? It's interesting to see that what goes around comes around.

I think I'd enjoy a visit to the 1969 version of Cedar Point even today. You can definately tell it was a lot more Disneyfied back then.

IMHO the mid 1970's was when CP had reached the perfect balance of attractions, before the coaster wars had started. It's also when George Roose and Emil LaGross both had a direct hand in the development of the park. After Mr.LaGross passed away the winter of 1974-75 the atmosphere changed there and it was never the same.
