Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

Good Times at The Good Times Theatre are coming to an end. I wonder whats next to come. A possible dark attraction coming in 2015 or 2016? https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/The-Curtain-Closes?mobile=0

Is CP scaling back on live entertainment? This means no more ice shows. Hopefully Midnight Syndicate will be in a new location next year if they return.

I am not sad about this news personally. I'm calling it now: goodbye Turnpike cars, Cadillac cars, and relocation of Calypso; hello to a new ride/coaster that goes through that area and better traffic flow/redone Blue Streak midway.

All I can say is WOW. This makes for some exciting speculation.

Let the 2016 rumors and speculation begin

2015 - Ride Host: Shoot the Rapids 2016 - Team Leader: Ripcord/Challenge Golf 2017 - Supervisor: Thunder Canyon 2018 - Supervisor: Camp Snoopy 2019 - Supervisor: Power Tower

Good bye red dorms, reroute CP road - lots of room! Why would you think CP is scaling back on live entertainment Thabto? Tony stated in the post "While this means the ice-skating shows have come to a close, we’ll be offering more entertainment in the park. You’ll learn more about those plans as we go along!"

Cedars is almost guaranteed to go due to Matt Ouimet's disdain for on point employee housing. It's also right behind GTT. We may also see additional rides in the area removed or relocated, making for a nice plot of land for a new coaster or midway. It's not likely coming for '15 as they've announced Rougarou already. However, we could see a new coaster for '16, it is, after all, at least three years after Gatekeeper. I'm not so sure that'll come so soon after Rougarou, or Gatekeeper for that matter, though.

Oh, the speculation and possibilities. :)

A little sad. I was there the year the Cedar Point Cinema opened. Back then Imax movies were pretty unique.

I'm hoping for a new midway. It would really help foot traffic flow better. Celebration Plaza can get pretty crowded during Luminosity. Remove Cedars, reroute the road, and you got lots of new space opened up.

Because GTT was a major venue.

Tear down old Aquatic Stadium also while they got the wrecking ball there.

Maybe Miley Cyrus can come and ride on the wrecking ball.

Knotts announced new dark ride for 2015... Maybe a Triotech multi-year contract

The blog post says they're doing anything but scaling back Live E. Why should we believe Tony's lying to us?

Lots of fun speculation here!

Cedar Fair seems to like the Triotech attractions (side note, love the theme for the Knott's ride!), and it seems to me that to add one to Cedar Point would involve building a ride-specific building rather than using existing structures as they did at Canada's Wonderland and are doing at Knott's.

Replacing the arcade in the Coliseum with such an attraction seems to me unlikely: having to work with the (relatively) low ceilings and multiple pillars strikes me more trouble than it would be worth.

Removing GTT and re-arranging or removing rides, roads and very, very old employee housing could open a nice space for such an attraction.

I'll admit I just skimmed over the article.

I think the red dorms are coming down soon, and there will either be a new roller coaster or hotel :)

Mantis and Good Time Theater gone. Mean Streak and Aquatic Stadium stay. Even the Lemon Chill guy can't believe it.

Anyone remember when they used to use the pre-show area of the Good Time Theater (then the Imax Theater)? I remember seeing a 5-6 person brass band perform prior to seeing the movie during the early 90's. I'm sure they used it more during the 70's and 80's in its heyday.

I probably only saw the ice show 2-3 times in its 12 year run. I know I saw it in 2002 when it debuted. I would have guessed the theater would be reused for non-ice shows rather than removed. I guess they really don't feel they need the indoor venue.

Come to think of it, what is the largest venue they have now? Luminosity uses the midway and can probably be seen by the most at once. How many does the Aquatic Stadium hold?

Very excited to hear this. From my perspective this is just another item added to a growing list of rides/buildings/structures that should have been on the chopping block for years that are finally coming down in the name of improvement under Ouimet's watch.

Of course, very curious to see what will be happening in that area.

I remember the pre-shows very well. When the popularity of the Imax shows were at their peak, they constantly ran the movies and the pre-show was used as a staging area will other guests were in the theater watching the movie. I think my favorite Imax movie was "To Fly!".

I thought the ice show was excellent, I'm sad to see that go. But, I'm sure what is going into that space will more than make up for it. I'm on board with the thoughts that the area will be for a large scale dark ride, seems to make perfect sense.
