I'm considering participating this year. Still need to figure out how I'm going to use my remaining vacation time first though. I may not have any days left to use. :(

Ralph, If you decide not to participate, PLEASE donate to my cause....I'm having a hard time getting donations :-(

I read through the FAQ's, but I'm having trouble understanding exactly how this works. Can someone explain?

Firefox, First you set up a page on FirstGiving to collect donations, and send people the link. They can pay securely by credit card, or give you a check made out to Give Kids The World. You can enter the check amounts manually on the website so your total is accurate, then you have to turn in the checks on the day of the event.

It starts before the park opens, and we get to marathon a coaster -- the last two years it was just Gemini, but this year it's Magnum until the park opens, then they're switching to Gemini. You're not required to ride all the time, and really you don't have to ride at all. The marathoning is really more of a 'thank you' for collecting donations and to make it interesting and marketable. :)

Also, this year there's a $40 registration fee, and you have to collect at least $35 in donations to participate. Last year it was a $50 minimum but there was no separate registration fee.

Although the riding isn't required, it does raise awareness to people visiting the park that day. I spoke with dozens of people throughout the day about the charity and the event. They have a booth setup outside the ride to raise additional awareness and to collect any on site donations. We received a decent amount of donations from people who were visiting the park during the event.

Maybe this year they should have some more signs telling what is going on. That was my only complaint of last year. There was a lot of confused, and in some cases angry people who didn't understand what was actually going on.

If I'm not able to participate myself, I'll certainly be making a donation to somebody's fund.

Maybe to the same one you donated to last year? :)

Are you planning to do it again this year? I am looking for someone to ride with if I do participate.

What I want to know, is who will be sitting in the ejector seat for 2 hours :-)

^I am not sure yet. If I don't ride, I will still be doing a donation page to help out. I will probably decide by tomorrow.

I had a great time at this event last year. I'm planning on participating again this year, but I currently don't have the 40 dollars for the registration fee. Hope to have a page up by the end of the month.

Across all of the parks, we are up to 110 participants who have raised a total of $13,941 so far. Keep up the good work guys. Our goal this year is $50,000.

Remember, you don't have to be there to participate. You can donate via any of the many links out there right now, or setup your own account to attract donations:

does anyone have kara dhuse's e-mail address? I accidentally deleted the e-mail she sent me when I signed up. It's important I get a hold of her. I've got a major donation to give to her asap. :-)
