Dragster speedomoter gone

Does anyone know why the speedometer display that used to show the speed of TTD at the end of the launch is currently not there?

Was there in the beginning of the season? They are probably just fixing it or re-painting it or something. I hope it's not gone permanently, it was cool to see how fast you go when you race by.

Yeah there was. I went the weekend before Memorial Day and it was there. Then I went Memorial Weekend and it was gone.

That's strange. Probably just fixing it as I said before. Hopefully...

I noticed it was gone too.

I don't think it'll be coming back anytime soon. While I love everything about Dragster, I can understand the reasoning for removing the speedometer if it is indeed removed. For one thing, it will always read 120mph (with exceptions to overshots and slow launches in the morning) and after about a dozen launches, most people get the subtle fact that the next train and every train after that will be launching at 120mph. And riders can't even tell (or even care for that matter) when they're zooming past the hydraulic room at full speed.

So with the display, speedometer device, and rigging gone, I wouldn't count on it returning anytime soon, or at all.

Holy crap! Alert the media...start a press conference...call the President...There has been theming removed from a ride at Cedar Point! Why am I not surprised... :)

Nick

I would install a sign that read's really really fast.

I have never even noticed it while on ride, so its not that big of a deal to me.

I could see them putting in something along the lines of a small sign that would resemble a speedometer (in an animated design) with it reading 120. Or even just filling in the space with "arms down, head back and hold on!" in rage italic font.

I don't agree with anything you just said.

On a side note, Maximum RPM! has a speedometer that reads in KM. I'm not an expert in the metric system, but I think 160Km doesn't convert to 40mph ;).

2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

Actually, I used to see it say 121 or 122 quite often, maybe even more often than it ever said 120. I don't care about it though, it's just one less thing that will break on that ride anymore.

I've always thought that an on-ride speedometer would be cool: Just a normal analog speedometer for every pair of seats.

I noticed that it was gone on 6/17, filled in now with a blue patch of sheet metal. Hmmm...

While the actual speedometer is gone, I do not know if all the equipment is gone, or just the actual display.

It wasn't there 6/17.

I know for a fact it wasn't there 6/17. I was there.

What's there not to agree about? Saying that it reads 122, 123, 124, etc doesn't justify keeping it there. In 2003, 2004 and some of 2005 it meant something, but now it's something that's overlooked by most people.
The sign has "0-120mph in 4 seconds" on it, it's said in line, and the ops say it in their spiels. Removing a speedometer that further proves the point that you're going 120 mph isn't a huge deal. And I'm sure maintenance isn't going to miss it either.
I'm not saying I'm happy to see it go (I will miss it), but I understand the removal of it.

It's much like the caps on the tower countdown lights and the 2 massive tower spotlights, they were removed because they weren't needed and just caused some unneeded problems.

^I sure hope they change that sign. "0-12mph in 4 seconds." :)

Sorry, I mean't "gone" not "on". My bad. ;)

^^The speedometer missing isn't a huge deal because as you said, most people know how fast it goes because they say it all the time. The caps, however, on the launch lights really made it look much better. Without the caps the launch lights don't look nearly as good. And for the record the speedometer wasn't there on 5/19.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
