Housing

No, because there is no walking on the causeway. You have to take a vehicle from housing to the point.

That would be awesome, but does wifi do well with cinderblock walls?

Well, in my dorm we have a combination of cinderblock and regular walls, and I can get a close to full signal from the wireless router at the other end of the hall if I really want to in my room. I can see all the wireless networks on my floor, and I think one or two from the floor below me (I'm on the top floor)

I don't know how much that relates to Cedar Point's dorms, but, its a real world example from someone with block walls.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I heard that the dorms will have wifi this season.

The 2007 yearbook thing they mailed out says that one of the new things for employees in 08 is "Wireless Internet Hot Spots will be added to the lobby areas of select housing units."

It also says the employee rec center will be extending its hours this season, so there is wifi in there as well.

Is the off-point housing within reasonable walking distance of the park? I mean, why wake up 2 or 3 hours before you start to sit on a bus for 5 minutes when I could get up an hour before and walk... lol...

.

Umm...you can't walk down the causeway, legally.

Even if walking on the causeway was legal, there's no way you could wake up an hour before your shift and make it to work on time. First you would have to walk the causeway, then walk through the parking lot, then walk to your area of the park. If you could wake up, get dressed, and do all that in an honor, I'd be super impressed.

I'm too sexy for my harness!

OK, I was just wondering... it was just one of those things I know nothing whatsoever about and figured I'd ask :)

The only benefits or gold/cedars. Especially on really busy days the causeway gets backed up.

I would get up 2 hours before my shift at 7 and get all ready to go within a 1/2 hour and go to the store most of the time to get a donut for breakfast and be at the bus stop at 7:30 and by time I get to Fridays I'm there within in an hour to spare before work. I always like being to work an hour before work even when I'm working at my job now in Michigan.

Well The Commons Dorms are the Best Choice for those of you that are not going to at Cedar Point from Cleanup (2 to 3 weeks before) to Cleandown (About a week after park closes) If you are going to be their for the long haul then Bayside or Commons Apartment's and try to live with friends... but Still the Commons Dorms are the best it's only 4 people and it's air conditioned and you can relax in your room...

As Far as Waking up and walking on Point from Commons or Bayside then You may as well live in CEDARS because CP Police will say something as Walking Accross the Bridge is not Allowed.... You must either take the Crazy Buses or Your Own Vehicle unless it's parking ban day

Unless you must walk to work, I would never recommend Cedars to anyone.

A lot of people do like Cedars/Gold for the convenience factor.. getting to sleep in a little bit more, not as much of a problem if you do wake up late, putting breaks together to take a quick nap or getting a longer nap on a split. There's pluses to any of the housing choices depending on what you're looking for.

Personally I could never have stayed in Gold.. I'm too afraid of all the spiders on point, lol.

Commons is your best bet...if you like your A/C...then thats the place...just because its "cheaper" to stay in Golds and Cedars; doesn't mean that you're getting a "deal" or whatever you want to call it...Bayside, you're crammed in a apt. with 403483402348208 people....the A/C doesnt circulate well...and it'll just feel like you're crammed in there like sardines...And, as Andrea said; spiders are BADDDD at Golds and Cedars...

This is just something to think abouttttt =)

I know I posted this in the topic entitled "Cedars" but I also think that this is a good place to re-post this info because it is a housing topic and some of the new employees this year deserve to hear how it is to live in Cedars from someone who ACTUALLY lived IN Cedars rather than someone who is merely "judging a book by its cover".

I have read several posts from people who bash Cedars to no end (I cant speak for Golds) who I KNOW have not lived there. While I will admit that the overall appearance is not the greatest considering the age of the building, so it doesnt look as great as the dorms off-point (and I am using the word "great" in this sentence very loosely). Anyway please read on...

I stayed in Cedars last year with a buddy of mine who persuaded me to move there. I lived in the apartments my first year in 2006 and had heard everyone tell me that Cedars was a dumpy place, that it was not worth the cheap price. So last year I was kinda apprehensive about going to Cedars. Once I moved there though I was glad that I decided to give it a chance (the apartments, at least to me, then seemed dumpy compared to Cedars). You dont have to wake up as early to go to work because its right there, when you're done with work you dont have to wait to get outta the parking lot (or wait for the bus if you dont have a car) and drive all the way back down the causeway and find a parking spot and then wait in line to get your ID swiped to get into commons and then have security hassle the hell out of you as soon as you get into commons (the time it takes to do that you will have already been back to your room and showered and changed and ready for the rest of your night) and trust me on those HOT HUMID MISERABLE days all you want to do is get outta your uniform ASAP and into a COOL shower.

And definitely listen to GAM man68, you will definitely want to spring for an air conditioner because it can AND will get HOT as hell. Plus it s so awesome to hang around with and make friends with all the internationals that will live there, they ARE AWESOME!!! Plus on your days off when you want to hang at the park all you have to do is step outside and your there, there is also the employee cafe right behind Scrambler and it has a much bigger selection of food then the employee rec thats located in commons. Also the view from Cedars is AMAZING!!! It is right there next to the water and then on the other side you have the wonderful views of Millenium Force and the rest of Cedar Point, as opposed to the awesome BARBED WIRE FENCE that surrounds commons (Cedars is wide open). There is a dock right next to Cedars that goes past Famous Daves and out into the lake and that has an awesome view of the lake and Sandusky. I have fond memories of hanging out there many nights.

Last year when we lived there we had a mini-fridge and an air conditioner and we stuck up some posters and kinda made the place into our own...thats all it pretty much takes. I for one will be living back at Cedars again this year.

I had even managed to throw our awesome crew party in my room, I have talked to many people who have not lived there and have negative opinions about the place, basically judging a book by its cover...give it a chance, at least try it before you completely knock it.

Oh yeah and at Cedars you dont have all that noise to deal with (living at commons, you will be subjected to LOUD rap music everywhere you go) I especially like it when people prop up their stereo in the window and BLAST it outside. Commons does tend to get crazy, I especially like the hostility over CERTAIN sports games. Last year AND the year before I remember not even wanting to go outside because of it. And wasnt there someone who was injured last year at Commons that was weapon related? Im pretty sure that I remember people talking about that (it happened towards the end of the season), I for one do NOT want to be surrounded by that 24/7. At Cedars you dont have that atmoshpere of craziness and hostility.

Oh how I loved waking up 10 minutes before I have to work and STILL being on time (not to mention the parking ban days)...

*Oh yeah and on a side note, I didnt have ANY problems with spiders while I lived there last year.

Pete...I see you hate me now because of what I said...

Fine!

And, I wasnt really aiming it towards Cedars...more along the lines of Golds...

And, Commons isnt that bad...you know they listen to music and stuff at Cedars too...and yes, it might be super close to the park and all that jazz...but, I like Commons...ive been in Cedars and Golds before and I just dont think they're all that nice...but then again, its just my opinion...and I know...it doesnt count.

Megan, No I do not hate you and yes your opinion does count.

My whole reason for that post was to give someone who is new an idea of what it was like to actually live in Cedars the entire season as opposed to someone who just "passed through".

Megan, with all due respect (Im not trying to be an ass here), you have NOT lived in Cedars all summer long like I did so you dont know what its like. You and many others, seem to write off Cedars based on looks or maybe a visit there but it not fair to completely write it off as a ****ty place to live or stay if you havent stayed there for a significant amount of time.

With Cedars its "a lot more than meets the eye"...

This is true, and I need to learn to just keep my opinion to myself. And yes, I will always room in Commons; it just suits me I guess. But dont make Commons sound like a bad place, either. YOU havent lived there.

I lived in Golds in 2006 for the whole summer...and, honestly, like I've been saying, the only bad thing we had were spiders (other than no ladder on the bunk bed), and I think the only reason we had the ones we did was there was a hole in our screen in our window. I actually didn't mind Golds...it was nice being that close to work. I could go nap or take a shower on my 45 on hot days. We didn't have an A/C, which made it hot as hell, but, with an A/C, it would have been perfect. I love Commons, though...I find it more comfortable for ME, but, that doesn't mean that on-point isn't more comfortable for other people.

In all honesty, im not making it sound like Golds or Cedars are bad places to stay. Yeah, they do look a bit worn down; but it was just my opinion. To be honest, before I met my roommates in '07, I was going to live in Golds; but I didnt. So, I dont want to look like the bad guy who's downing Gold and Cedars. Im not, they just dont seem like somewhere I would want to stay. Thats all.

Yes, as a matter of fact I have lived in Commons...all of 2006 I might add.

Actually I have lived in the Commons dorms, the Commons apartments, Bayside AND Cedars so my opinion is formed out of experience I would have even probably lived in Golds if I was allowed to.

But yes that is your opinion that Commons is great, your opinion does count thats the point of this board to give your own personal opinion and advice and two cents.

My opinion does differ from yours but I was just trying to point out that my opinion on Cedars is the result of experience. I DID live in Commons so I was just contrasting the differences between Cedars and Commons...
