Kingda Ka Breakdown... Sound Familiar?

Might acutally be whats wrong with it!

One of the pictures clearly shows both pull cables and the return cables still intact, though the cables don't look like they have the normal amount of tension. By studying the picture, I don't think the issue is a cable break, at least not in the way we saw the cable break on TTD.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Pete, ok same sinario except it is a catch car prob. and it goes haywire and tears everything up? I know I am grasping at straws but you burst my bubble, I looked at pics again and saw the same as you did. :}

Maybe the catch car didn't release as it is supposed to and that's what stopped the train. It could explain the loud banging, and larges pieces of metal being discharged from either side of the track. If it didn't release, it would badely damage the underside of the train and prevent it from rolling back to the station.

Except that the catch car doesn't actually attach to the train. If I remember correctly, the train rolls over a sensor which causes a flap on the catchcar to flip up. The train then "rolls back" into this flap and then gets launched. Whenever the catchcar starts to slow down it detaches, there is nothing holding it to the train that could cause it to be stuck.

Also, when TTD's cables snaped, didn't they fly up to hit the riders?

No, the cable did not fly up and hit the riders. The cable snapping on Dragster and the incident with metal shavings weren't even during the same season.

Maybe it didn't get stuck to the train, but rather it had a mechanical malfunction of some kind and kicked up into something and tore everything up jamming the train in place.

I'm tending to beleive it was ride program malfunction. I recall reading about issues with the transfer track motor over heating and shutting it down. A good theory in my opinion would be that causing it to E-Stop and some malfuntion allowed the fins to pop up but the catch care/train kept going and tore up the fins.

I actually wouldn't say that the cable didn’t have anything to do with this incident. If you look at the 6th picture, the return cable is nice and straight but the 2 top cables are slightly sloped (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/Dragster420/060905cable1.jpg). Now correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't the cable still been visible during a cable snap on Dragster? AND don't those cable guides (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/Dragster420/Copyof060905cable1.jpg), which every Hydraulic launch coaster has, prevent the cable from going hay-wire?

So my hypothesis is this: The metal the person reported seeing was the 2 individual catch-car cables coming "undone" and shooting either side of the train and the noise was the sound of the metal hitting the bottom of the train (which would explain why it's tarped). The cable act as a hook getting caught somewhere and not unraveling through and out of the guide wheels. The catch car also played a part.
The bent fins....????

Now that's just a wild guess. It's most likely wrong:). *** Edited 6/10/2005 8:34:11 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***

It was prob. a little bit of everything, something broke, which in turn broke a lot of other stuff, which made a h--l of a lot of noise and stopped the train. Now that is a good tech. explanation of what happened. :} LOL

TTD120, you going to be there on the 16th? I will be there with my kids, 14 and 13 year olds, for my Son's 8th grade trip, Allen Park Middle School.

That IS one of the reasons why we make fun of them. Their maintenance isn’t all that good.
But that isn’t entirely their fault.

P.S.- I dont want to be rude, but uh....spelling.

^^^ Dude I would fix your post as you are gonna get a heck of a hard time over that post.

TTD120, I will be wearing a Allen Park Fire Dept. T-shirt, I will keep my eyes open for ya, maybe we can all take a Dragster ride together. :}

thepoint4life23, not trying to bash you dude but you have to proof read your posts, they are really hard to read.
