Little Cedar Point Facts/Info

Ok....I know I'm probably going to get quite alot of heat for this, but I have a few questions. I really have only been a huge CP fan for about two years now. Prior to I maybe went to Geauga Lake once a year, or WWK, when they razed the ride side, ect. Sadly today I just found out that Maverick's building wait area was originally part of White Water Landing, and the small fountain you see coming out of the that area is a part of White Water Landing. I thought this was pretty neat, and pretty touching for nostalgia kinda people, like me. Now because I'm working there this year, and I can do more in the park considering I'm not rushing around with a platinum pass to get the most out of the day like last year. What kind of things like this can I look for and find around the park, ect. when I work there this year

Thanks alot fanboys :D hahaha Ugh I loved our off season tour btw :D

Just a few...

The kids haunted house next to blue streak used to be the pirate dark ride. There are marks on the floor in there still.

The snoopy gift shop next to the collsium arcade, used to be the earthquake dark ride. I hear that there are some reminents in the back room.

The gift shop next to the power tower, used to be part of jungle Larry.

Of course there is the whole disaster/ avalanch run thing.

The building at the exit of mine ride, used to be a station for the frontier lift.

The haunted house next to wave swinger, used to be a merry go round. The merry go round is now at dorney park.

The good time theater, used to be an imax theater.

That's just a few off the top of my head, If you look close enough at these locations, you will find some traces of what used to be there.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Don't forget the Cedars Hotels/present-day dorms.

And Erie Estates is the old Cedar Fair headquarters building.

The employee entrance by the Marketing Department used to be a wooded pedestrian path open to guests which led to the Hotel Breakers. Along that path, in what is now a parking lot, CP used to have a night club called the Circus Bar. Once the bar was closed, some older employees may remember the Circus Bar as the old Employee Rec Center.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Ahh the circus bar. Always wanted to go in there as a kid since it was decorated with a circus theme, but parents wouldn't allow it.

The pier over near the Cedars dorms where the marina store is used to be a terminal for ferry service from downtown Sandusky.

The shack near the caboose decorating the Maverick landscape used to be the equipment room for the original Shoot-the-Rapids ride. It had a seating area for the ride supervisor to use.

The park entrance over near the old Imax theater used to be the place where cars would enter to cross the midway on their way to the Breakers before the perimeter road was built.

The location of the live show theater near the front entrance once housed a scary and then later a Hollywood themed wax museum.

Crazy Horse, I don't remember an earthquake dark ride. I'm 34 years old, maybe it was before my time?? Or I was too young to go on it? I've been going to the park all my life and remember everything else on your list except this one.

There are some pictures floating around somewhere. Let me see if I can find them.

It used to be in the snoopy gift shop right across from Cedar downs. It was replaced sometime in the 80's when the berenstain(sp) bears took over its location.

The ride had scenes with walls that looked like they were going to fall on top of you. The ride was purchased from a park called freedomland in New York that went under. The pirate dark ride also came from that park.

EDIT:

Look on this page, just over half way down there is a picture of the ride at cedarpoint. There are also a bunch of pictures of the pirat dark ride as well.

Here is a great color picture of the midway with earthquake. You can see the pagoda gift shop next to it. You will have to cut and paste the link in your browser.

Wow, you guys know alot...Haha...I'll def. take this into consideration. Hopefully too I'll be able to go around and do some digging/take pictures for all of you as well for some of these things. I def. want to show our group as much as I can while I work there

The queue for Mantis once required crossing the train tracks. I'm correct on that one, right? Some of you older fans back me us on this. I was only four years old. :p

I didn't know that was the spot. I knew that Boeckling had built such a road to carry the car traffic from the ferry docks across to Breakers, but I never realized that was the exact place. Very cool.

Now if somebody could only produce some photos of the interior of the Eden Musee, I'd be happy beyond belief...

If you have the history of cedarpoint dvd, there are a few shots of the inside on there as well.

One of my favorite topics... Where to start?
The lamps and statuary near the marina entrance were purchased from the worlds fair in St. Louis. The lamps were originally gas powered but were retrofitted.

On the train ride going back to frontier land there used to be a scene where the train would be hijacked by live robbers, shooting blanks. If you can walk along the tracks without getting tossed, you might still find an old blank shell casing or two.

The second floor of the coliseum still has a beautiful art deco dance hall. To see some of the famed acts who performed there, see the town hall museum.

The entrance to the western cruise ( now bastardized and known as paddlewheel excursions) was right where the final misty area of the iron dragon now sits.

The old frontier lift used to go into the second story of the bathroom building behind mine ride before 1976 this was the only way to get from the back to the front of the park, as the fro tier trail and the Gemini midway hadn't opened yet.

The decorative train on the frontier trail is Albert, one of the original two engines. His "partner" was traded to walt Disney world, only to discover that the engine coming back from Florida didn't fit on the CP tracks.

The snoopy boutiques was the indoor portion of berenstain bear county between it's tenure as the earthquake ride and it's current use. Much of the scenery still inside is from
that attraction.

The pagoda gift shop was cedar points post office for many years.

The wax figures in the town hall museum are leftovers from the Eden musee, the old wax museum.

The extreme wheels stadium used to house a sea world style dolphin and seal show.

Thanks, crazy. Yeah, I've seen the shots in the history DVD you mentioned -- in fact, I just watched it again about three nights ago. It really is a nicely done video.

The caboose that sits as a decoration by Maverick used to be the caboose on the train that people would come in on from Sandusky. It had been sitting unused from then until now.

A friend of mine was able to go around with a metal detector in 08 on the small island the paddle boats travel around. ( to tired to remember correct name ) She found several old pendants and coins from the early 1900's in my mind that island probably holds the most history in the form of items lost by guests who could actually travel to it in CP's early days and also from things lost by guests since MF was built. Truthfully I would love to spend a day or 2 in the woods both on the island and around frontier trail as I believe there is probably a good chance of finding a great deal of fascinating park history.

^I found a Season Pass from 1983 on the beach in 2008. Thought that was very cool.

As mentioned above, the train used to have a scene with live actors playing masked bandits. Kids could be "deputized" before the train left the main station (there was only one at the time), receive a little metal badge (you got to keep it) and a toy pistol or rifle to help defend the train. I used to have several of those badges, but thru the years they have disappeared.

Anyone out there still have one?
