Maverick

Every time I go to Cedar Point this ride is not working. Does anyone know why? I was there this past saturday and bought the Fast pass plus ticket- one main reason was for this ride! It was down all day except for maybe a half hour. Seems to always have lots of mechanical issues!

Intamin - 'nuff said.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

All of the Intamins this year have been having terrible mechanical downtime (with the exception of MF).

Said every one every year.

Wilderness Run has also been running noticeably smooth this year. Very little downtime on each trip to the park this year.

Promoter of fog.

Maverick was down Friday too when I was back there but I don't know for how long.

It's down for at least an hour every time I go. Disappointing because it's a great coaster. I can see why CP doesn't go with them anymore.

Millennium Force has been running very well this year. Much better than that blue B&M up front.

At least Wicked Twister used to be reliable. I have no clue what's going on with that thing this year. Sad, because it's my favorite ride to work, and packs a punch.

I don't remember Maverick having as much down time in years past as it has had so far this year. It's absolutely ridiculous. I heard the downtime it had this weekend is pretty serious.

Dragster...I mean need I say anything?

Maverick has been open everytime I've gone this year.

It's been open every time for me as well, but it's gone down while I've been in line on more than one occasion this year. And WT has been running horribly this year. I've only ridden it about 3 times this year because it's down alot.

And when has Gatekeeper had any issues aside from the lift issue?

If Maverick breaks down while you're in line, that's still considered down time no matter how long it takes for them to get it back up and running. It has been down A LOT this summer.

In terms of when Gatekeeper's down time was, do you want me to throw out a random date?

I've just chalked it up as coincidence but GK has been down many times while we were at the park this year. While it is certain that it has been running more often than not, it was still surprising how many times it was down when we went to ride it.

We are going to spend 5 nights at Breakers next July and I hope we will be able to ride Maverick several times. Hope Cedar Point can fix the issues with this ride.

I remember Maverick downtimes during our last visits in 2008 and 2011. Well, during our 4-day trip in 2013 it ran very well.

Wish me luck to enjoy this beast next summer!

Does anybody know what kind of problem has occured last weekend? Sounds like a serious one?

Take it for what it's worth, but there's a lot of hearsay going on about it. If all is true, it's a very serious situation.

This is a total guess, but I think the cold may have messed up the LSMs to the point where it wasn't functioning properly. My freaking name is based around the unreliability of Intamins, and maverick is one of 2 main culprits.

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

I hear they've been having issues with the Retro Encabulator and they have a new one on order.

I heard there were electrical issues and they couldn't get 1.21 jiggawatts of electricity to power the flux capacitor.

We were there all weekend, and it didn't open up (from what we saw) until 7 on Sunday. I didn't think we'd be able to ride at all, which was a bummer because I was really excited to try out the new restraints. But, we lucked out.

Seemed to be running fine once it re-opened.

To the OP: This is a seriously complicated ride that has a large amount of automation. That said, thousands of "events" have to happen exactly on time to have the ride operate. The launch system uses mind-numbingly expensive and delicate parts to achieve what seems to be a simple task. Pushing a few tons of metal and humans safely up a hill with electro-magnets. Safely is the key part of that sentence. If there is a problem, the ride does not go. Could it go??? Plausibly. But if it is not 100% safe it will not. I am hopeful that you would agree that not riding is better than risking lives and the ability of the park to insure itself (read: stay open).

All of the rides are complicated, intricate machines. That's no excuse for constant downtime. Other manufacturers haven't been plagued with the amount of troubles that Intamin has.

To not admit there are wide varying degrees of 'complicated' for these machines is simply not being forthright.

Maverick, I would think, is more similar to The Smiler in its ride operation than it is to any other coaster at Cedar Point.

And, yes, Safety is most important.

So, I'd rather see it down on the side of caution.
