New for 2014

I don't know why these threads keep getting shut down. But I honestly think it's time now. It's almost August and the off season is going to be here sooner than we want it to be. What is CP going to do for 2014? I think most of us are thinking a dark ride. But where at? What's it gonna be about? Come on people! Lets speculate!

Well lets look at historical capital expenditures

1994 - Raptor
1996 - Mantis
1998 - Power Tower
2000 - Millennium Force
2002 - Wicked Twister
2003 - Top Thrill Dragster (doesn't the year seem like an anomaly? I think TTD was hastily planned)
2005 - MaXair
2006 - Skyhawk
2007 - Maverick
2008 - Planet Snoopy
2010 - Shoot the Crapids
2011 - Windseeker
2013 - Gatekeeper

I think it's safe to assume that we aren't getting a mega super 500 foot B&M launched Dive Machine floorless flying wingrider. So we can get big coaster out of the discussion. I think the hotel renovation is our big expenditure for the year. I'll be happy with fresh lightbulbs and a fresh coat of paint on TTD to be honest.

I honestly don't know what's next

I would be happy with all the lights on GateKeeper's trains and Maverick's tunnel to work. A new coat of paint for TTD and Raptor would be nice as well.

I don't see anything big for CP next year, but I've heard many rumors of a dark ride in the Coliseum building. I personally am not a fan of dark rides, and especially after riding TDK coaster at SF Great America, I have come to enjoy them even less. So if CP does end up getting a dark ride, there are two things that I would highly recommend they do. Number one is, actually make the ride dark, as the name implies. TDK coaster didn't get great reviews from me because there is one light in the building that illuminates the interior just enough for riders to be able to see the whole track, making it more of an outdoor wild mouse than a dark ride. Furthermore, although dark rides are restricted due to them being confined to the space of a building, I feel that TDK could've been far better with a more creative layout. In short, I see only one solution if CP were to invest in a dark ride: a PITCH black Intamin ZacSpin

Cedar point already made a mistake for taking out paddle wheel excursion and replacing it with anamatronic dinosaurs that roar at you.

Yeah, I miss the boat and I can see fake dinosaurs at the Cleveland Zoo. Major fail.

Yea I saw them there to...

They still have the Dinosaurs at Cleveland Zoo? When I went last year, I couldn't find them?

I'll settle for anything that keeps the seagulls from pooping on the rides.

Yep. Major fail. Since all of the people who go to Cedar Point live in Cleveland and go to the Cleveland Zoo, what was the point? If only Cedar Point could get people from other cities and states to visit the park....

I wouldn't mind seeing a Thunder Canyon refurbishment.

They seem to be there every other year or so

In the NEW CEDAR POINT TEASER thread, Tony posted:

"When the first stripe of paint appears on the midway for 2014, I won't post a photo of it - I don't want to disappoint.

Wait. I just realized I teased 2014. Whoops!"

This could be for a dark ride, a restaurant, or pretty much anything. At least we know 2014 will bring something new. What it is, as of right now, is an impossible questions to answer. There haven't been any sightings of interesting markings/activity in the park, as far as I've heard. Also Tony's post was the 1st clue I've seen, so there's nothing else to make guesses on. Give it some more time, and if there is a new ride for next year, I'd expect to see some more clues shortly. It's almost August, after all.

Well if they could just get some REAL dinosaurs...

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

It would be cool if they spent the off season fixing all the little things that have broken or been removed from rides over the years. Smoke/steam in the magnum tunnel for example. Oh yes and lots of replacement lightbulbs.

They weren't there last year but they've been advertizing their return this year.

Probably because they are nothing more than wishlists. Especially lacking any physical indications in the park that it looks like construction is going to happen this offseason.

I'm almost more interested in what the hotel renovations will look like than I am about what ride Cedar Point may or may not put in. That's actually something bordering on confirmed. Give me some concept art featuring, you know, contemporary décor, carpets, et al. That will get me excited.

Love the idea except for one word: Intamin.
