Selfie Sticks...

As of this Friday, Disney is banning Selfie sticks in all of its parks. If caught, you will have it taken away and may retrieve it at Guest Relations when you leve the park. Is this an issue at Cedar Point?

I don't know but those contraptions are ridiculous.

On Coastermania day, some guy I know used one to take a picture over the construction wall.

I have yet to see anyone actually using one of those things anywhere.

We've been seeing them at the theater, and I've seen them around the city (Chicago), mostly downtown.

And it's hard to resist the temptation to tear them out of the hands of the self-centered idjits waving them around, all too often nearly hitting someone or something, and break them over my knee. :-)

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

The way I see it a selfie is by nature a close up picture so taking a far away selfie just seems stupid. If you have a large enough group that your arm isn't long enough you just need to go out on a limb and ask the most trustworthy looking stranger to take the picture for you.

Selfie stick just sounds like a solo pleasure device.

It is; it provides gratification to one's narcissistic "needs".

Did you get some good pics?

Ha, just kidding. These sticks look like mini retractable golf clubs. I wonder if you could consider them a weapon.

Those stupid things make me wonder what the world is coming to. Worst $4 anyone could ever spend IMO. The "disease" is spreading and my friends are starting to get these. The day will never come when I feel the need to buy a stick to take pictures of myself.

They've been banned at Comic Con. Get caught with one, you lose your pass, get shown the door no refund, and it's questionable if will be allowed back in the future.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've seen them in gift shops at Cedar Point.

Just keep them off the rides please, that's all I ask. It's bad enough that so many people feel the need to take their phones out on rides as it is. I'm surprised we haven't had more incidents of people being hit by flying phones.

I hate them both for their inherent eye-rolling narcissism and because people are using it as an easy excuse to say any variation on "see, this is why generation Y/millenials/those dang kids these days/etc are going to bring ruination to life as we know it!".

That being said, as ubiquitous as they are in stores now, I've still experienced more people complaining about them than people actually using them.

My partner and I went to Spain and France 2 months ago and idiots were using them at Portaventura theme park in Spain (not on the rides though). We just got back from Niagara Falls for a weekend 2 weeks ago and there were literally hundreds of idiots with them. I was just watching the falls on the Canadian side when a neon green cellphone on a stupid stick slowly crept into my vision next to my head. I wanted to yank that thing and fling it right over the falls with the idiot using it still attached to it.

The should just rename them Narcissism Sticks.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Narcisticks, akshully.

Disney is not banning them. They're prohibited on rides. And they're like a disease down here, the biggest offenders being South American and European tourists at the theme parks.

They are really popular. CES was full of selfie sticks this year. I see them all the time at National Parks, so not surprising they've spread to amusement parks.

Banning them seems to be a bit much, but keeping them off rides seems smart.
