Surprise 2014 Attraction?

Looks like 2014 is going to be known as the year of "low capacity" attractions for Cedar Point.

Half of the day you're going to be waiting for major attractions moving 1000+ people..

I don't think you have the intention of marathoning the Eagles..

If so, then sorry, but I'm not complaining, one less rider between me riding a major. Well I take that back I probably won't even be stateside xD..Hopefully by today I find out

The Dole Whip Guy...I should have known.

! - No sweat, forums are tough places to gauge intent. I was aware of the CPFansite discussion, but as you can see it didn't start until 4+ hours after RC89's post here. CPFansite is known to "borrow" insight from Pointbuzz. This wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last. It is a shame they couldn't credit their source.

As far as the marketing is concerned by not "officially" announcing it, but hinting there was more to come, this filing and the subsequent posting here, have created a "buzz". Multiple news outlets, publishing stories, claiming to have a scoop. Notice that when asked, CP doesn't outright say it is untrue, only that they have no announcement to make at this time - creating more speculation and buzz. If this were a marketing plan, it worked well, it created buzz and media stories for the park - in the dead of winter.

RC89 - Thanks for coming back around. Just exactly how did you find this FAA filing in the first place? When you go to the FAA page it isn't like you can search on Cedar Point. First you have to search by state. Once you have searched on Ohio there are literally hundreds of cases to look through. Until you actually view the individual case it is only listed as "Sandusky" with a case number and the coordinates. Do you spend hours just browsing FAA proposals in states you don't live in?

Regardless of how or why - I am glad you did and thanks for choosing PointBuzz to break the news!

No, this year is going to be know as the year of "the most complaints". ;)

I went on Google map and wanted to share this picture of the land available in front of Gemini. That corner of the park definitely needs an attention getter at night. It's really dark back thru that section. Nice planning! http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb471/joefrito/slingshot.jpg

Well, between this and the fact that you don't feel safe in the park, maybe just do everyone a favor and stay home.

Well, look who's being negative now.

The alternatives to Cedar Point are getting better with every price hike, upcharge, and closed attraction you fanboys accept and defend.

I thought that was funny, not negative!

So you're trying to make it sound like two (three probably) new rides, new restaurant, midway renovation and resorts renovation are a negative by saying this is the year of low capacity attractions? You sound like you are disgruntled about something, I think you should go to the alternatives you seem to like so much.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Two lame low capacity additions, a third that will likely be an up charge, a new overpriced food service, and resort upgrades (externally - this year) aren't exciting to me And if I follow your logic, I should be equally as enthusiastic about any roads I getting repaved between the park and my home.

Indeed, please continue your trolling at RoadConstructionBuzz.

I'd be enthusiastic getting ANY road paved in Michigan. While MDOT is at it, tear down the bridge SteveH dwells under.

Why are you even still on here if nothing appears to get you excited? I'd ask you what CP could do that would make you happy but I have a feeling I know what you'd say. The thing is, I prefer answers that are within the realm of reality. :)

A 500ft wooden looper isn't in the realm of reality? Well bosh! ;)

The Crystal Method is the only way to find The Winner!

I look at other park offerings and find creative ideas that would make just about everyone buzz if CP offered these…
Six Flags Dining Pass - $80 for two meals at every visit.https://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/store/season-dining-pass
Six Flags Mexico's Medusa will be transformed into a wood/steel hybrid coaster dubed Medusa Steel Coaster in 2014, adding several inversions. CP could certainly do this to Mean Streak and make it world class.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC7JhFybVVs&feature=player_embedded
Curse of DarKastle (3D Dark Ride) at Busch Gardens (a seasonal park!) We really need something like this – it’s been at least 30 years since we had a dark ride.
Holiday World offers Free soft drinks! Why can’t CP?
Knoebels (a family owned seasonal park) built Flying Turns by themselves (much like The Beast was built by Kings Islands own maintenance department). It would need to be upscaled to meet CP’s capacity requirements, but even after lengthy delays - it proves it can be done in house, and within a budget even a small park can fund.
Six Flags bad weather guarantee. https://www.sixflags.com/newengland/plan-your-visit/weather-guarantee I wouldn’t feel so ripped off if Mother Nature rained on my visit.
Why can’t these sorts of ideas be done at Cedar Point? Because we accept what they offer and think that is just peachy keen!

^It's been a long time since I've posted, but I had to answer this.
1. Regarding the RMC treatment for Mean Streak, it's a possibility, but Cedar Point would want to see the long-term reliability of other modified RMC coasters. I think they want to see how it pans out for them before they make the transition to the steel treatment.

2. I can agree on the dark ride. A return of the pirate ride would be great.

3. Free soft drinks? Think about the attendance levels. Holiday World can offer free drinks because they won't take too large a profit loss in their refreshment market. Do that at Cedar Point and they're bound to take a hit.

4. Good luck trying to find the "old-school style rides" with the capacity Cedar Point would need. Making it "fit to capacity" would take away from the old-school feelings, which is what Knoebels accomplished.

5. The bad weather guarantee will probably never happen. Yes, you're going to make a few unhappy when you have to tell them that we don't have rain checks. But think, again, of the profit loss in ticket sales if a combined quarter or your total attendance is rain-checks. It's money-wise a poor decision.

Finally, of course I accept what they offer. They're doing a great job, and I leave happy every time. You have to go with the expectation of at least one thing going wrong on your day. Slow lines (new crew), weather (because we can clearly control that), crowd behavior (everyone is human, just some are more ignorant than others), just many factors go into play when you visit Cedar Point, or any park for that matter. They are a business. Money comes first, ultimately. Doesn't stop me from taking the kids there every summer.

Just my two cents!

Your two cents very well put.

Sometimes when I'm waiting in a long Cedar Point line I fight back my shyness and strike up a conversation with someone around us. Would love to meet many on this forum, but now I'm afraid it might be someone like SteveH and my day would be ruined from there on.

In line i like to meet new people. It's fun to see what they do and what they are like. As for the ride, why hasn't Tony popped up yet? He likes to every now and then to squash our ideas and infuriate us on whats new.
