Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio, May 30, 2003 – What do you get when you mix more than 2,000 members of roller coaster and amusement park organizations with the largest roller coaster park in the world? For one, you get loads of roller-coaster-riding at Cedar Point’s highly anticipated 15th annual CoasterMania! event on Friday, June 6.

Roller coaster lovers the world over will flock to the famed amusement park/resort – home to 16 amazing roller coasters, more than anywhere else on Earth – where they will be at “fever pitch” over riding the rails, especially on Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point’s astounding new 420-foot-tall, 120-mph “strata-coaster,” which debuted to the general public on May 4. This world-record-breaking $25 million scream machine is the tallest and fastest coaster on the planet and is the first to ever break the 400-foot mark.

Clubs such as the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE), Great Ohio Coaster Club (GOCC), National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA), European Coaster Club, Coaster Zombies and Western New York Coaster Club (WNYCC) will meet at Cedar Point wearing T-shirts, jackets with patches, hats and other coaster gear and memorabilia. Simple nuances that most riders take for granted like the best place to sit on a coaster and the best time of day to ride will be debated and vocabulary such as “air time,” “camel back” and “cobra roll” will be discussed. Roller coaster buffs will compare how many coasters they have ridden and question which is better: wooden or steel scream machines.

Special ride sessions on thrillers such as the incredible new Top Thrill Dragster, Raptor, Blue Streak, Power Tower, Millennium Force, Magnum XL-200 and Wicked Twister will give CoasterMania! participants an added roller-coaster-riding perk.
