Zoning committee approves Cedar Point tax abatement

The Sandusky enterprise zone committee will recommend that the city of Sandusky grant a tax abatement for Cedar Point's proposed Radisson Harbour Inn expansion, the Sandusky Register reported.

On Friday, the committee agreed that Cedar Fair, L.P. should get a tax abatement. However, the committee did not decide if the company would get its request for a 10-year, 75 percent tax abatement, Sandusky Economic Development Specialist Mike Will told the Register.

The committee is continuing to study the request and has the option of suggesting a lesser amount or asking Cedar Fair to give a donation to the Sandusky City Schools to offset the effect of the tax abatement.

The enterprise zone committee is the first step in the process. Next, the request will have to be approved by the Sandusky school board. The committee then hopes to have the tax abatement resolution at the city of Sandusky's August 11 commission meeting. Finally, Erie County commissioners will be asked to approve the abatement.
