SANDUSKY - Top Thrill Dragster is still down for the start of HalloWeekends, but it might be running by next weekend, said Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards.

Cedar Point announced after Labor Day that Top Thrill Dragster would be closed indefinitely.

The roller coaster went down Sept. 2 because of "mechanical problems," but park officials declined to elaborate.

Thursday, Edwards said the motor isn't working, but had no additional information.

Guests have been informed about the closure through postings on the park's Web site and signs at the park's entrance.

"We have been very upfront as we have always been with the status of the Dragster," Edwards said.

Since debuting in May 2003, the Top Thrill Dragster has operated sporadically. However, this season, it has only been down a few times.

Cedar Point experienced trouble with the ride's prototype hydraulic oil system and launching cables in 2003-04, and four riders were injured on the ride in July 2004 when a cable frayed.
