Power outage at CP doesn't affect guests

Friday, 14 July 2006

The power was out at Cedar Point on Thursday but didn't affect the park opening at 10 a.m. as scheduled.

An underground cable was disrupted, causing the power to go out in the Wicked Twister Midway area, according to Gary Mortus, general manager of Ohio Edison.

The power was out from 8:40-10 a.m. The power outage only affected guests who had passes to come into the park early. The ride maXair opened a few minutes late, park spokesman Bryan Edwards said.

Mortus said the age of the wire or a lighting strike could have caused the problem.

Ohio Edison will fix that cable soon but meanwhile has switched some wires to bring the power back to that portion of the park.

The Sandusky Register's Web site was down Thursday morning because of the wireless interface between Cedar Point, the Register and Advanced Computer Connections, according to Web Director Patrick O'Brien.
