Cedar Point Press Release

As Cedar Point prepares to launch GateKeeper, its new wing roller coaster in May, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, will make a stop at the famed amusement park/resort on Tuesday, March 26, to meet with local workers who have been instrumental in the $30 million project. GateKeeper is not only an exciting addition for thrill seekers— it’s also a tremendous success story for Ohio manufacturing. Its construction created more than 100 local jobs for steelworkers, electricians, contractors and others during the traditionally slow winter months.

Sen. Brown is scheduled to speak about Cedar Point’s impact on job creation and tourism at approximately 2:30 p.m., directly in front of the construction site. He’ll be joined by key representatives from Cedar Point, project leaders and workers who have been instrumental in building GateKeeper. A few key notes include:

Cedar Fair strongly believes in and continues to invest in Ohio tourism

  • Cedar Fair has invested approximately $100 million in capital expenditures in Ohio between 2008-2012
  • In 2013, Cedar Fair expects to spend more than $30 million at its Ohio parks
  • Cedar Fair is exploring additional investment plans which could amount to more than $100 million over the next three (3) years in Ohio

The highlight of this year’s investment is the new multiple-world-record-breaking GateKeeper roller coaster at Cedar Point

  • GateKeeper was made in Ohio
  • The steel track and supports were fabricated by Clermont Steel Fabricators in Batavia, Ohio
  • The foundations were poured by A.A. Boos @ Sons from Oregon, Ohio
  • The electrical “nerve center” of the ride was completed by Firelands Electric in Sandusky, Ohio
  • The station was built by Bert Witte Contractors from Amherst, Ohio
  • The plumbing and air systems for the ride were put in by S. A. Comunale from Fremont, Ohio
  • Lew’s Construction from Sandusky, Ohio, is building the new front gate area
