Disaster Transport Removed/ Remodeled/ Renamed

I agree that Disaster Transport is a good ride for the kids (maybe that's why CP changed the theming to glow-in-the-dark hand prints lol), and that's a good reason to keep it. But, I'd also have to say that CP is essentially a thrill park. You'll find a higher ratio of thrill seekers, groups of teenagers, and college students at CP; go to King's Island, and you'll find the park is basically built for families.

That's not saying CP is by any means neglecting the younger ones. They've recently added Camp Snoopy and have the entire area near the front of the park devoted to kids. In my opinion, that's enough; I didn't have Camp Snoopy when I was 4 years old at CP, and I still managed to have the time of my life. There's plenty of stuff for kids to do at CP.

While DT and Iron Dragon might be good intermediate roller coasters, aren't Wild Cat, Mine Ride, Cork Screw, and Blue Streak in a similar class? If not, 1 or 2 seasons without them will be something to look forward to.

Judging by the way Cedar Point is maintaining Iron Dragon and DT especially, I just don't see either of them lasting for a great period of time. If either or both are eventually torn down, I'm very hopeful they'll be replaced with an updated version of the same breed. I would be furious if DT was torn down for a new spinny ride or children's area (I have to have another indoor roller coaster if DT goes.

But you also have to realize that we are not the only people riding these rides. Iron Dragon and Disaster Transport may be the worst rides in the world to us but to other people, it might be fun. The thing is, if people continue to ride and the ride isn't creating a problem, then they are going to keep it.

To me, DT stands on a part of the park that could easily be the site of a new record breaker, or even just a classic woody. There is a lot of space behind the midway games.

Who says that Disaster Transport has to be removed to make room for a 18-looper, mega-super-duper roller coaster? DT is a nice intermediate coaster that could be replaced by a better intermediate coaster. Or, the area could open up space for a larger project (hence, the bigger goal) ... Wicked Twister and Giant Wheel may just be the beginning. And nothing says the park couldn't offset the 'loss' by building a family coaster elsewhere.

Cedar Point might be a thrill park, but it is also a resort. Families will continue to be very important. Families spend money.

Man I feel as if Walt is throwing out a few hints. If so then perhaps the gravity group woodie may be coming after all for that area.

My vote would be to turn it back into Avalanche Run. And speaking of coaster counts, I always thought CP could place a wild mouse type coaster inside of the Mean Streak Structure, there's a lot of wasted space there.

Yeah, but the question you have to ask is, do those queues fill up on the busiest day of the year? My GUESS is that it does, I'd like someone to either confirm or deny this please, if so, then I don't not think that CP will touch that area, and leave it as queues for mean streak.

Arms down.....Arms down.....Arms down.......Arms down.....Arms down....Arms down...(you think they would get it the first time?!)

Even on other days of the year, the queue for Mean Streak can get pretty full, they still have +hour waits sometimes...and since when did Iron Dragon have to be removed? That ride is by no means being neglected, is that not a newer station that was built a few years back? I see no signs of neglect anywhere on that ride...DT on the other hand, well, thats a different story, and as Walt said, WT may not be the last addition to that midway...

Go Full Force. :::::::::::::90

I don't think DT or Iron Dragon are bad rides, I just think CP has ruined them. When Mantis was constructed, it really took away from Iron Dragon, as the peaceful ride of trees turned into a wasteland of steel. When TTD was constructed, the remaining trees were basically removed, exposing everything. Not only does Iron Dragon look dwarfly out of place, the ride just lost its appeal after it was mixed into a jungle of steel.

Yes, we're not the only ones going to CP and families are important, but I think that's already been addressed at the park. I would be perfectly happy if DT was replaced with a new family type coaster. You can create a much taller coaster and it can still be intermiediate (world's tallest indoor roller coaster..I can see it now lol); instead of a large drop, the energy can be fed into smaller hills throughout the ride.

I think a Floorless Dark Ride at Cedar Point is just about crazy enough to work...if somehow they knew about this post, and if you think about it...we have pretty much maxed the roller coaster hight/speed, unless the cars are closed and have their own oxygen tanks...

So...I come to the conclusion that Cedar Point will begin to break other records (e.g.- Most inversions in one coaster) and things like that...I am still young yet, but still like DT and would be sad to see it leave..but what if it were replaced with something bigger and better?

Like what was said earlier...you can hang on to the memories of DT, and even create new ones on the future roller coaster/ride to occupy that part...everything happens for a reason, and this would be part of something big!

edit: My thoughts after seeing where TTD was placed were, man, they really robbed that area...I think scenery is becoming the last thing on Cedar Points agenda, as well as themeing...but who knows what the future holds...

As far as Cedar Point's scenery, they are dealing with a double edge sword. If Cedar Point left the trees, people would complain that there were no new rides. When Cedar Point does expand, people trip out and say they want trees. You can't have both.

Ok here is my question, what is the point of it beeing floorless if it is dark? On batman Knight Flight, the only difference it being floorless was that you could see the track. Yeah it was cool, but nothing to rave about just because it was a floorless. But having it dark, you wouldn't be able to see anything, so having it floorless would seem like a waste to me.

Well, I guess CP chose the expansion "edge," and as a result, they've ruined Iron Dragon's appealing element. Solution: While it can't be a peaceful ride anymore, make it exciting again; if that means the world's tallest suspended roller coaster is needed, then so be it. If Iron Dragon was to be a historic roller coaster for Cedar Point, they wouldn't have done this to it. Can you ever imagine CP winding a giant steel ride through Blue Streak, Mean Streak, Mine Ride, or Gemini?

Because CP has space issues, I don't think they're ever going to choose the scenic "edge" of the blade. They need new rides/expansion for hype each season. If they continue to conserve Frontier Town as the scenic place (which brings about another good topic), they will place new attractions wherever the space is available elsewhere. However, the original point was why can't Cedar Point revamp/replace rides rather than constructing at entirely new sites?

Liebevision: They could actually get the most out of a floorless coaster having it enclosed. It's all in the lighting and effects. Picture heavy fog and columns of light radiating from beneath, or like I said, you're feet could be dangling above bright, glowing lava as you make a close pass by a volcano; there are so many options.

i like the trees and think that frontier land should stay as is. as for DT i think that they could slide it over to the employee lot and still fit a floorless coaster in maybe even intertwine them

Actually to other people the ride "sucks". We remember it as a great, almost historical, ride. The GP wants bigger, better rides.
I hope that no one misinterprets my thoughts(in this post and my last). I love DT and hope that nothing happens to it for many years to come. I am just telling the truth. I would much want DT to be renovated instead but, I just don't see it happening.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Are your ready for some speed? We've got 120 miles per hour! Are you ready to get vertical? We've got 420 feet. Are you ready for the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the world?! ARE YOU READY FOR TOP THRILL DRAGSTER?!?

How can you say the General Public thinks that? According to Cedar Point, in 2001 Iron Dragon gave 1,680,269 riders a spin. Disaster Transport gave 1,053,930 riders a spin. That is just as much as Mantis with it's 1,253,978 riders. Blue Streak, however, only served 988,482 riders and Wild Cat only served 551,662 riders. So, in your opinion, which is more bad for business?

I'm not saying tear down Blue Streak or Wild Cat, I am just saying, don't speak for the public when you can't account for them.

I had been thinking about it and if the ride were rotated 75 degrees and pushed 200 feet to the south then a floor less close to the size of mantis would fit with no problem

Disaster Transport is one of my favorites, its just a different feeling of being inside, not much light, and be free banking on turns and stuff... I also remember the kick ass theming back in the early 90's... and im sorry, but i kinda personally took alittle bit of the theming away...

it was 2000, me and my friends were standing in line when we came to the 3 windows where it shows a large painting of cargo (boxes in a hanger) well... on some of the boxes, it says "Glass" and there is one inpaticular towards the center, it is a large box, with a 3/4 smaller sized box in front of it. the larger box said "glass" but the box infront of it covered up the "Gl" and left the large box plainly and simply spelling "A-S-S" or "ass". Me and my friends were goofy back then and it just so happened that a CP employee was sweeping the floor and happened to walk by, where me and my friends stopped her and said "it says 'ass' on that box there!" and she proceeded to get a piece of duct tape and cleanly place it over the "ass". but well... in 2000 the scenery was already basically gone...

But thats a kinda funny story and how i kinda left my own mark on cedar point. if they ever tear it down i want to ask cedar point for that picture.

The box is still covered, if you want to look for it its about a 5inch by 3 inch strip of duct tape, i think painted a black or brownish color now, on the boxes cargo hanger picture behind the windows. When you see it yell "MrFat did that!"

Although i do agree that DT is far to short, it is an enjoyable, pleasant ride, that is nice waiting in line for on a hot day :)

TTD: 2 (Rollbacks seen: 1)
MF: 15
WT: 6
Usually at CP: every mon, tuesday, thursday

OK so here we go after some mild calculations, we have decided that if the peak height were moved up 30 feet then 3 u-turns and 4 "90's" were placed in then with the present 10 person cars a max of 45 mph would be achieved as well as turning the ride time into a 2:21 Minute ride. this is just one idea i will have the tot. trk lngth soon. and it is possible to just add this to the existing structure. any way i am only an engineering student so until i become a professional i doubt that i could convince anyone important, expecially cedar point. any ways DT has an important place in my hear and it is comfortint to know that it could be saved if the time and effort were there.

Jeff da Beat:

A ride's popularity cannot and should not be based only on those numbers. As someone mentioned before, and I'm willing to bet, majority of riders on DT are there for the air-conditioning, so those numbers probably are not from popularity...mantis, maybe..
