Shoot the Rapids 2012

Was just curious to know how STR was doing this year? Any new elements? Ride running a little better?

I feel like this year the ride may be a little better with all the foliage beginning to grow in...

I was actually hoping they would recycle some of the old Paddlewheel Excursion props. Anyone know what happened to them? Probably just threw them out.

Some of them were used in Blood on the Bayou last Halloweekends.

It's has been running pretty well, there has been some down time though. It was down for around 2 hours yesterday. Also the water that shoots at the bottom of the second hill is very paintful if your in the front row, it nearly ripped my contacts out lol. Other than that its pretty much the same!

Without starting a new topic here, I have seen Shoot the Rapids going for my three visits I've been to the park. However the other two water rides haven't been moving yet. Anyone know if Thunder Canyon and Snake River Falls have been running yet?

Snake River was running empty boats on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. No idea about Thunder Canyon.

Thunder Canyon was running when I was in the park last week.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

You can check the operation of Snake River Falls on the Webcam, on cedarpoint.com - the maverick bridge. Snake River Falls is currently running today.

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

The mist in the first tunnel seems less thick than it did the first year it opened. I think some of the nozzles are broke.

Let's Get Weird.

I've always felt like a piece of produce at the grocery store when riding through that tunnel.

lol Well, it sounds like you won't be as fresh of a piece of produce anymore (if the mist has been reduced).

A few PWE props are still in their original places. The elk and some others can be seen from the train and from CCMR.

FWIW, the History Channel keeps pronouncing their show wrong - it's Canfields and McGees, dagnabbit!

Just say no to trims

So, was there any effort this year to get StR running faster through the flume? I think that's what kills this ride the most; rapids and bobbing boats are what make flumes fun.

Someone managed to figure it out at Holiday World (as can be seen 0:30 into this video):

I remember reading somewhere that the pumps at Holiday World are being pushed so hard that they're shooting straight up or something. Can't they get bigger pumps, additional pumps, or just do what Holiday World is doing?

I hope Thunder Canyon and Snake River Falls are both running. My friends and I rode all three last year, and honestly, Shoot the Rapids was my least favorite.

I really am disappointed with STR. While I understand there was a gap in the attraction lineup as far as flumes go, this is probably the point's biggest mistake in capital dollars since Disaster Transport.

With so much technology out there today, I can only imagine that the 10.5 million investment could have been used a little more creatively. The ride is boring, and should have a much lower height requirement.

But, since its not going anywhere anytime soon- i'd like to see Snake River Falls removed *since STR is so similar* and a ride like River Battle replace it.

I do think that the ride is running better this year. There still are times I ride it when one end of the boat is sinking. There are also still times when the water pours over the front of the boat. Doesn't seem to happen as much as it did in the past years though.

^^See, I really don't want to see Snake River Falls removed. Unlike STR and TC, every person is guaranteed to get completely soaked. Plus it's more of a thrill than the other two IMO.

Since Shoot the Rapids is pretty dull, I say enclose it in a large metal box and call it Disaster Port.

I still don't get how StR is so ungodly slow. It's like the speed of a Roller Coaster Tycoon log flume. It's especially bad since I remember the canoes of WWL absolutely flying around that course, at least the part on the ground.

Ffej, I just voted your post up in my brain...
