Wicked Twister troubles

Wildcat did not replace Jumbo Jet. Also, Wildcat was not removed for safety reasons, it didn't fit very well in the Celebration Plaza area and was removed for that reason.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Right now for what I know I agree with the guy, I always thought it got transferred left & right then scrapped.

That's the park it's apparently at, and that's the ride design. If it's still standing I'm impressed.

Still have to say the best ride w/ a spiral lift is still Whizzer @ SFGAm

All I know is that they sold it, I thought somewhere in Maine, and replaced it with Wildcat. I was fuming, I was finally tall enough to ride the Jumbo Jet that year and it was gone. I thought they sold JJ because of "maintenance" but I didn't know if someone heard something else. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the Wildcat also a Schwarzkopf? So I'm wondering why they got rid of one and replaced it with another. I had seen in the JJ debut brochure it was the "fastest roller coaster", I don't think WC was as fast so why the downgrade?

RCDB says it was in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, but it doesn't say when it was removed.

Here is my thread from when I found the current "on ride" video for Jumbo Jets at it's current location:

Here is a direct link to a front seat view from 2011:

If I ever get back to France, I am going to have to take a detour and finally ride a Jumbo Jet in Amigoland. That seems more plausible than Minsk.

Jumbo Jet was promoted in the brochures, it was taller and faster than Wildcat, which wasn't mentioned in the brochures. Nobody knows why exactly they got rid of Jumbo Jet?

A contributing factor was the fact that it had a 60" height requirement. In addition, I'm not sure about Cedar Point's, but many other Jet Star models have a no single rider rule.

Here is a new "off ride" video from May of this year, so she is still in operation as of 5/13:

Was there really a 60" height requirement for Jumbo Jet? I can't believe I was 5' in '78. I can't find the height requirements on the brochures for that time span either. I can understand the tandem seating to some extent, but still.

Doesn't Lagoon near Salt Lake City still have their Jumbo Jet? (Yes I know I could look at RCDB to find the answer but my work blocks that website for some reason)

According to their website it's still there.

The park shipped their existing Wildcat coaster to Valleyfair after the 1978 season, and Cedar Point's new coaster was put up where Jumbo Jet was located. I'd guess Wildcat was moved in preparation for the construction of Oceana, which opened in 1980. (But that is only a guess.)

How did you come to the conclusion that it was removed for cosmetic reasons? I have always heard that is was removed due to some incident during testing.

Celebration Plaza Expansion

With the desired expansion to Celebration Plaza, coupled with the low ridership and increased maintenance costs, Cedar Point has decided to accelerate the removal of the ride

In this case "fit" refers to physical space, not looks/appearance

Thanks for the heads up but it seems theirs is a Jet Star 2 and Jumbo Jet was a Jet Star 3. Still, if we're going that way, I will keep this in mind so it's great to know. Jumbo Jet has morphed into some elusive mythical creature for me over the years.

From Lagoon's website:

"it was moved to Lagoon and re-erected for the 1976 summer season. Jet Star 2 has become such a popular ride that a large investment was made in 2005 to refurbish it."

Makes me wonder if Jumbo Jet would have kept some of its accolades I had always heard if it would have stayed put.

I'm a little late with this, but last Thursday I saw Wicked Twister valley after it didn't make it up the spike towards Gatekeeper. Has this happened before? I've never noticed or heard of that happening. Looks like it didn't get enough speed coming out of the station when it happened.

I noticed it do that when I was with you Thabto(Brian), and other times I've seen people post pictures on social media of it getting stuck right in that same spot. It's odd that it runs out of power right there? Can anyone explain this?

I was there the day before (last Wednesday), and it never reopened in the evening after the brief downpour.

I've gotten stuck once at that point. One of the ride ops told me that there are so many safety sensors that even a grain of sand can stop the ride.
