STR Site - Observations, Ideas, and Speculation

Well since Intamin couldn't stick around too long with Shoot the Rapids, I would like the idea of maybe a different manufacturer come in and bring us a new water ride. Maybe they could bring back the traditional log flume like Race for your life Charlie Brown from Kings Island only with the Shoot the Rapids layout. To me, I feel like they left it open for another water ride to come in, in the future.

I liked the theming of Shoot the Rapids but personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the area bulldozed and have a clean slate. The ride always felt out of place to me and the scenery just reminds me of a ride that was absolute trash.

The concrete troughs that were created for STR aren't very ideal for using again in another water ride. I believe they are flat and level which necessitated the use of several pumps to keep the water current flowing.

This was one of the many flaws in STR's design and why it puttered along so slowly through its course. Traditional log flumes used fiberglass troughs that ever so gradually decreased in height as the canoes wound their way through the course.

I'm completely guessing here but the height of the trough at the top of the lift conveyor belt mechanism was probably 10-15 feet taller than the top of the final splashdown drop. No pumps were necessary except to get the water to the start of the trough.

It's almost a shame to have to break apart and remove all of the concrete considering the sheer cost of excavating the dirt to make a ditch, laying down steel rebar and then pouring all of the concrete to make those troughs and splash ponds for STR.

I like the haunt idea until it gets converted into something else. It seems like they could make it a miner themed haunt or something along those lines.

I do hope they get some type of flume based water ride in the STR location. Mack seems to make some really nice water rides, I'd like to see Cedar Point work them for the next water ride.

Since we can wish and hope for free, I cast my vote for the long rumored dark ride. Something themed to Lake Erie maybe, NOT Peanuts.

Peanuts is awesome. I'm all for a Peanuts ride

Agreed. I do miss the days of Pirate Ride and Earthquake. They were must rides every visit when I was younger. I think a great idea (if one is going to be constructed off of the Frontier Trail) is to have a new dark ride (with coaster track) themed to the Wild West or better yet, how about something to tie into the CP/LE RR? and have a dark ride featuring Boneville skeletons? (something even like Jason and the Argonauts). I can see that appealing to a wide audience. Yes, CP, build this dark ride already!!!

I would like to see Mystery Lodge built at this location. It is an award winning family attraction at Knott's Berry Farm (so Cedar Fair owns the rights). It would fit great in the theme of frontier trail, and it is truly a great show. Do a search on-line to take a look at what this has to offer.

My wish is for a combination flume and dark ride. The CP&LE can run through part of the artificial rock covered show building, similar to what Disney has done with several attractions.

I went on Intamins website today and under Hyper Splash water rides they show Shoot the Rapids still....i had to giggle to myself.

I bet the Intamin Hyper Splash ride will be a best seller.

I don't know, but something makes me think they won't replace a water ride... With another water ride. I think it leans toward another coaster, or perhaps a family area since frontier trail lacks many family rides.

I'm all for a traditional flume. I love them, and now we've gone from 2 great flume rides to 1 mediocre... whatever the heck STR was... to no flumes at all unless you count SRF. (Which I love but consider too short to be much of a flume ride. It's more of a HUGE KERSPLOOSH ride.)

Even if it's not a record-breaker or even very big, a flume would be nice- in its day, Mill Race was one of the most popular rides in the park. And the theming in the area IS lovely, and I don't see a reason why it can't be salvaged for something.

Let it be known that henceforth all Shoot the Chutes rides such as Snake River Falls will now be known as HUGE KERSPLOOSH rides!

It's interesting because there are so many areas of potential change at stake right now.

-Cedars Land if it is indeed to be torn down

-Mean Streak land as we all know its days are numbered unless it gets RMC treatment

-STR land

-Challenge Racing land

I think Cedars will be gone within the next 2 seasons, especially since it's highly visible now and the park has been getting rid of eyesores.

And yesterday, I got a cool idea for the STR land. I think if they left the station and props intact, it would make for a good RMC coaster.

Why does everyone think Cedars is an eyesore? Maybe it's the historic preservation side of me, but I think it looks fine. Now, from a functionally obsolete standpoint, I get it, but purely aesthetics, I have no problem with Cedars.

I think the STR land should be left for a flume. CP is back to only 2 water rides now and is in desperate need of a flume. MS land should be used for MS RMC or a new GCI woodie that CP is in desperate need of!
