Coming from the South

I know this has been talked about but I can't seem to find the thread. We live in Kentucky and last year took 75 to 71 which showed as being the quickest, but I didn't like the two lane roads and going through the little towns. I was thinking of trying to just take 75 straight north instead, is it hard once you get near Cedar Point to go east and find it? I lived in Michigan my whole life that I could go there with my eyes closed. I will have the GPS on my phone but sometimes it doesn't seem to work too well. I'm really trying to get there the fastest, I'm picking a friend up from the Lexington airport at 11:20a on a Saturday and really hoping we get to the park by 6, we are going to check in to our hotel first since we plan on staying until the park closed. I just plan on showing her around the park on Saturday and then Sunday hitting it hard, we bought fast passes due to my disability and not being able to stand for long periods of time, so I'm assuming we should not have any problems getting on everything. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi...long time follower, first time poster. Just to let you know that I know what I am talking about in your situation. I have been a resident of Sandusky since 1982, attending the park since then, and attending with a disabled son for 25 of those years.

Do not redeem your Fast Passes until you talk with Guest Services (in the front of the park) or Town Hall Museum (in the back of the park) Request from them a Special Access Pass for your disability. You will go to the ride, make an appointment to come back based on how long the wait is, then go back and ride. You have waited the same amount of time as someone in the regular line so it is legal, it's free and may solve your issue.

Even though the Fast Pass order says it is not refundable, as long as you don't have the bracelet yet CP will work with you.

Have fun this weekend.

Thank you for that information, I had no idea they did that. I will definitely check it out but I don't have an obvious disability that can be seen by looking at me. 7 years ago I was in a very serious auto accident that left me disabled. I have a hip injury and walk with a limp and am on a lot of medication but I wonder if they would believe me as I'm sure people probably try to do that and have nothing wrong with them. But it is certainly worth a try, there are three of us going and we all purchased the fast passes so we would ride together. I've never been on a Sunday but figured the park would be pretty busy. It killed me to spend the money for the fast passes but figured it was my only option, I really appreciate your feedback.

You said you are arriving tonight, so I would stop by Guest Services/Town Hall tonight and discuss it with them. The park covers all ability levels so the disability doesn't have to be obvious. Then if you feel you don't need the Fast Pass you can cancel. Just talk with them and get all the information.

I'm going to do that, our trip isn't until Jul 30, we have the passes for the 31st.

Take 75N to RT-6 East. 75 you can make good time until about ~10mi from the Rt-6 exit, there's a ton of construction right there. But you can set the cruise and hold speed generally the whole time. If you go a bit over like I usually do, it can mean large shaving off the time.

Be careful on Rt-6 though. There's a few quick speed limit changes and some areas troopers/local police are notorious for sitting. Especially about 3 miles before turning left to go around Fremont. I've never not seen a State Trooper sitting there.

But I used to take that route from Wright Patt, and usually ended up getting there 20-30m faster than the estimated time. It's way better than taking 71N from our area, or taking Rt 4 all the way north. Don't do that. It's...ugly.

Thanks everyone so much, definitely going to do 75 to route 6. I really disliked going 71 year, we ran into a lot of traffic and then the towns and two lane roads just seemed to slow us down. I will let everyone know when I get back my thoughts on going this route.

Couple more questions I thought of...is the McDonald's on the causeway more expensive than if we go to the one near our hotel? We are staying at the Motel 6 on Rye Beach Rd, stayed there last year, it was cheap and clean. We are trying to save as much money as we can. We are getting the all day dining plan on Sunday and split between my husband and I.

Since we are arriving Saturday night to the park, what would be some good options for rides, since Sunday we have the fast passes?

I'd avoid the Causeway one just on the fact that one, it's dirty. Never liked it as an employee. Two, it's usually busy due to it's CP proximity. The other one will be better suited and easier to get to, and will get you away from the bustle that is CP.

I75/rt6 is the ideal way. Rt.6 has a bypass around Fremont and as Rt.6 goes thru Sandusky(some traffic there),it'll take you right to/at the CP causeway entrance.

Thanks for the replies, this definitely helps me in planning trip better. Only 16 days, I really cannot wait, especially since my friend lives in Florida with all the theme parks but I've told Cedar Point is not like any of them.

I grew up very near I75, north of Dayton. We always took I75 up to Route 6, south of Bowling Green. That takes you right into Sandusky. I don't remember the drive being too bad as far as small towns go.

Coming from Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, we always take 71 to Rt. 13. For us, it's about 20 minutes less than taking 75 to US 6 just because 71 is three lanes and 70mph pretty much the whole way. We make it now in under 4 hours whereas the 75 route always took about 4.5.
