Soak City Announcement on

Why would they delay the announcement? Verruckt has nothing to do with CP or SC at all.

Remember last year when they delayed the announcement of Valravn because a man died from getting hit by the Raptor? It just wasn't right to announce an attraction named after a death bird immediately after a death took place. I don't think it would be a good PR move to announce a water coaster (if that's what they're getting) after a kid just died on a water coaster.

Verruckt is a water slide, not a water coaster. And the tragedy with Raptor happened in the very same park that was announcing Valravn, not an unrelated park in an unrelated chain 757 miles away.

That was refurbished with Lakedise Pavilion, not Windseeker.

Incorrect, it was done when Windseeker was installed and the relocation of Ocean Motion.

All I'm gonna say is that I hope Bubbles gets some attention if Soak City is the next to get upgraded. The size, room for employees to work, and limited seating at the bar makes it almost dang near impossible to keep a buzz ;)

I'm surprised Pete didn't upvote this already :P

I'm cool if the bar gets an upgrade. It's one of those things I'd like to see a better build of at some point.

I think you and I have different ideas of this Soak City expansion though. I don't think it will be that major. I think it will definitely involve extensive work to the pathways, pavers, landscaping, entrances (including resort entrance), bathhouses, and overall feel of Soak City, but I don't think much of the attractions will change. My guess is that only new attractions we'll see are Knotts' Tornado, or Geauga Lake's Tornado and waterslide complex (assuming it does close down), one of those new trap door complexes they're putting in throughout the other CF parks and maybe a second wave pool. All of this shouldn't exceed 10 million or so.

After the 1997 expansion, the only things they've added have been Splash Zone and Dragster H2O. That bears repeating - in the last 19 years, they've added an interactive play structure for kids and a six lane Mat Racer. I think the water park is due for something more substantial than a few used slides and one or two new slides.

And of course the "coasters are in our DNA" park will add a water coaster. My guess would be the longest and/or fastest of its kind.

I'm not talking about what SC needs or doesn't need, but rather the fact that we might not see a record breaking expansion of the water park but perhaps something much smaller.

I don't know, given the statement they made with the Breakers renovation, I don't know why they wouldn't do something substantial with this opportunity.

Anyone stating that CF can't afford to do MS and a SC expansion in the same year are making huge assumptions to items that are unknown to anyone outside of company and park management.

And, Dragster H2O was a significant downgrade IMO.

Except of course that the park has already announced and therefore confirmed that something is indeed happening to MS. The park has also teased a flip flop that was sent to the press. I'm not sure how a flip flop fits into Fromtier Town so in all likelihood the 2 aren't related to each other.

I'd say there are far less assumptions on behalf of those who feel both can occur in the same year than those who don't.

I can't speak for everyone but I haven't been assuming anything. I've been speculating on what we MAY OR MAY NOT (this is the key statement, and I've said it in posts over and over again) get in 2017 based on facts, rumors, and patterns. We may get one or the other, we may get both, we get neither. Who knows, 2017 might just be a new water tower and water pipe line from the city ;)

Clearly the flip-flop means they are re-theming Soak City as Margaritaville. All pool water will have salt added.

Just say no to trims

This.

In my opinion, its not unreasonable to think both COULD happen. But its pretty unreasonable to think both CAN'T.

I don't know anything about management/budgets. But I do know Cedar Point doesn't shy away from going big. We have evidence from past investments that totally supports the parks ability to spend a lot of cash.

We'll know for sure fairly soon. It's either a Soak City expansion, something with Mean Streak, or both. That's as certain as I can be.

"Thats when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice"

My issue with this entire discussion is that the one thing we know for certain that is happening is MS is closing on Sept. 16, yet it is the one thing folks seem to think nothing will be happening with due to a rumored and speculated expansion of SC.

Because it is closing the 16th, doesn't mean its opening the 2017 season, that's what people are getting at. It may be a 2018 project.

What we do know is that the park will close attractions and leave them boarded up for an entire season and not even do anything at all with it... STR.

STR was a bit of an anonomoly. They didn't really plan on that being a horrible investment and closing it.

Cedar Point isn't known for leaving coasters SBNO, which is why I find it unlikely that Mean Streak would sit for an entire season without having anything done to it.

The fact that its closing early this season and made a big hulaballoo about it is the main sign. So either they start work on it after 9/16 to have it ready for 2017. Or, they start working on it after 9/16 and its a massive project that requires them to work nearly 2 years to complete.

But it WOULDN'T be SBNO. It would probably only be half standing. I'm sure they'll start working on it right away, if that's what's happening, because it's a big, big ride.

It's not like they're going to close it, let it sit idly, and then re-work it. The whole point we've been trying to make is that it's such a big undertaking, they may have allowed for any hiccups and whatever and are going to project a 2018 opening.

Anyone else think Winter Chill Out could be extra interesting this year if they go through with 2 large projects? Not to mention any possible signs of future development at the STR site?

I understand that some think a possible conversion of MS would take 2 years but I still wonder why that is the case. And if so, why would they close MS 6 weeks early if it was a projected 2018 opening?

This guy gets it.

"Thats when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice"

^ Because RMC told them they would need 18 months to do the conversion due to Mean Streak's size, winter on Lake Erie, and the extent of the conversion? All of which would be legit concerns if RMC said they were concerns...

Disclaimer: I don't think it will be closed until 2018...

How long did the GCI revamp of GhostRider take?

I agree completely with Shane Denmark. And I am confident it will be 2018.
