New For 2017: Cedar Point Shores Water Park

Any possibility. Food and drink stands or gift shops don't take up a ton of room. Games take up less. Aesthetically, trees and grass look better than empty pavement.

TTD, there is no logical reason whatsoever to remove an established system that separates pedestrians from traffic. As has been mentioned previously, the line at the resorts gate is substantial in the morning; stretching that across a roadway makes zero sense.

The drawing indicates trees on the side of the road right up to the crossing. If there is a sidewalk nearby, pedestrian traffic will line up on it rather than across the road.
My vote is that it's an at-grade crossing.

That is most definitely an at grade pedestrian crossing on the drawing.

I have a question. Any idea where Ripcord is going next year? I didn't spot anywhere in the press release about Ripcord.

The two logical places (room-wise) are the former STR location and or Millennium Island.

Thanks for the reply Coasterguy! I thought everyone was ignoring me.

Apparently Coasterguy didn't get the memo ;-)

And RipCord going in either of those locations is a massive waste of space. Hopefully RipCord ends up at either Sports Force Park, or the scrap yard.

Is it a waste of space for the park or just because you think it's a waste of space? I think the planing design people and all the other people involed in what goes where know whats best for the park.

At the bottom of Sandusky Bay would be ideal.

Or, as JUnderhill suggested, more appropriately at the Sports Force Park.

It's likely they couldn't find a buyer for it like the go karts or skyscraper, and why it was there this season.
If it can't be sold off, I can't see it being used in a shiny new section of the park looking like a used carnival ride.

So then there's no logical solution to prevent people from occupying the road when the line gets long? The line at the Marina gate has been long on many occasions due to Valravn. And CP seems to have no trouble organizing the line when it does extend past the road. The solution is quite simple really......it's called a crossing guard. ;)

Just because something works one way, doesn't mean it can't work another way. If Cedar Point wants to make that part of the road a zero grade crossing, they'll do it. And that drawing shows that they will. It's not that insane of a thing to think about.

Go Karts are gone. Challenge Golf and Rip Cord soon to follow. This marks the end of "Challenge Park."

"We currently have a system in place that is safe and functional, but lets spend hundreds of thousands to remove it in favor of one that requires us to hire someone to make it function" Because... that makes sense? I'm still waiting for someone to come up with a logical purpose for removing the tunnel besides "well they can if they want to".

The marina gate is a poor comparison as it serves a fraction of the guests that the resorts gate does. There MAY be long lines at the marina gate on occasion since the newest ride is next to it, but there ARE long lines at the resort gate almost every single morning.

With the placement of gated CP Shores Preffered Parking lot the number of non CP Shores guests (main gate entrance users that formerly utilized the soak city lot as free preferred parking before soak city opened) will be reduced from the gate serving as the Resort Entrance.

Another plus is not having to slog through a flooded sewer water tunnel to get back to your hotel during heavy rains. The guests you're trying to impress the most with upgrades to extend their stays. (Free shoe cleaning service might help, but no tunnel even better)

It's also unsightly from the current polished look and feel of the park remodels.

You're right, the park is completely redoing that area to make it look updated and fresh......but they're going to draw the line at an outdated tunnel and a small section of the road that is elevated. I mean, it's not like like they can afford to have a bulldozer raze the area, level it with "dirt" and have a construction crew (most likely the same people that will be involved with other aspects of future concrete work)lay some new concrete. Plus, it's also out of their capabilities to make a zero grade crossing work. I mean, who can afford to have one guy tell people when to cross the road when the line backs up for a few short hours in the morning?

So, you want a logical purpose? Here ya go

I have it on good authority that they're relocating that tunnel over to Valravn.

You know what, all the challenge park stuff would be fit for the sports park. I guess go karts aren't what they used to be...

Oh, I don't know about that. A trip to Pigeon Forge or Branson gives pretty good evidence of their popularity.
But I'd agree that go karts may be in declining popularity at amusement parks, and I'm think especially from the owner's standpoint. They're space-taking, staff-intensive, fuel users. Plus there's probably increased liability with them.

It's interesting to think of Challenge Park attractions making their way to the sports park, but I don't believe that's the concept. It will be a place for the area to host softball tourneys, things like that. We have a place like that here in Columbus and it draws thousands of visitors associated with various sports teams so it's good for the local economy. They stay in hotels and eat in restaurants. There's a charge to park. And it's mainly over long weekends, holidays, times like that. Local intramural teams use it when it's not booked and it's a city park with a rec center otherwise.

CP's sports park will be busy, but not every day. The average CP guest will not make their way over there, but rather, sports teams will include a day at the park as part of their trip. A mini golf would be ok, it might be a low-overhead diversion for attendees that aren't playing- parents, small kids, people like that. But I wouldn't look for staff-filled, certification- requiring amusement rides to show up there, that's not the idea.

Yay sports!

There will be trampolines at the sports park according to the website. Which will require about as much staffing as Ripcord and I believe certification from the State. Ripcord moved to that location could work, however unlikely.
