Other New Additions for 2018

Now that there's a new dedicated 2018 page, I thought I'd start this topic.

There's no doubt that RMC Mean Streak/Mean Streak 2.0/Cavalry/et cetera/et cetera is the most anticipated new attraction for 2018, but what about other additions coming up next year, like the Hotel Breakers expansion? And what other new things are you hoping to see in 2018?

For me, I'm hoping that the opening of MS2 also sees FrontierTown get a major overhaul of some kind, in the same vein as what the Gemini Midway received for 2014 and what the area around Blue Streak/Marina entrance got with the addition of Valravn last year.

If they can do to Frontiertown what Knott's did with Ghosttown Alive, I will never leave that area of the park. Okay, maybe venture over to Millennium Force once in a while ;)

I really hope they turn Frontiertown into something of Knott's quality. Maybe a family flat or two, and giving it a redesign/overhaul like they have been doing with other areas of the park (as you mentioned). I wish Cedar Point would get a Caterpillar flat ride (they are classics, and could fit well in Frontiertown if given a cowboy theme) and 2018 is a Frontiertown overhaul year. Basically: RMC MS, A small family flat or two, overhaul/sprucing up of the area.

RMC Mean Streak: 215ft Tall, 75mph, 4 inversions. 2020)ALL BLACK B&M Flying Coaster on Millennium Island. 2023 or 2025) Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter like Takabisha

I'm wondering if they will move the railroad tracks to go around MS2, I seem to remember Dead Tony mentioning something about "is he happy on this side of the tracks" or something like that during the funeral for MS. Maybe they will also remove the god awful asphalt on the trail like they did with the Gemini midway.

I don't believe there is enough space for both the RR and Perimeter Road to run on the outside of RMC MS, is there?

Room can easily be made with shifting the road over a bit. What I would question is where the railroad tracks would go after it goes around Mean Streak. Once you turn past its overbank you run into Planning & Design so either it continues around that building (putting P&D inside the park) or you cut through the structure of Mean Streak just before the overbank and run the tracks towards its current crossing near the Gemini restrooms. Either way a lot of work would have to be done especially if they ran the tracks behind P&D. I don't think much would be gained by doing either for the park.

Aside from a few cosmetic items and adding some more food, I don't really think much needs to change in Frontier Town. I don't want to see any more large rides added or more structures built. I like the flow of the area and I enjoy what is currently offered in Frontier Town. Maybe remove the cars but I am not sure Id like to see a ride replace them because I like that plot of land being open and shaded.

CP is one of the only parks that hasn't been refreshed by the addition of classic flats... or maybe they already have their fair share of old-assed flats. Anyway, looking at recent additions at Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland, thrill rides of that sort would be a welcome addition to Frontier Town. It's been sitting back there with nothing but a Wave Swinger and the Antiques for many years now.

But does every area of the park need to be packed with rides? Frontier Town as 8 rides currently along with plenty of space around the area that allows the rides to "blend in" with the surroundings (better than any other area of the park IMO).

Every area of every park needs to be packed with rides.
Well... ok. I'm all for commitment to theme and lord knows I'm a fan of atmosphere. I'm also not entirely sure that an addition of another flat or two should necessarily come along to ruin any of that.
What we'll probably see in Frontier Town is an overall spruce up, things like new paint, roofs, new ride entrances and queues. Added details and signage to buildings and structures. Pavers, brick, or stamped concrete in place of asphalt or plain cement. An actual restaurant would be nice, maybe Cordelia Knott's fried chicken. Or a larger saloon with an expanded theater and a great new show.
And hopefully it won't go the way of Rivertown at KI with its cartoony colored buildings. It received its latest "update" around the time Diamondback arrived, so...

Whatever it is will serve as a lovely backdrop along the path to the new and improved coaster in the back corner, right?

Maybe when Mean Streak's replacement makes its debut, they could open up this area in red and possibly squeeze one or two flat rides somewhere in there, among other attractions? At the very least, it wouldn't be a dead end anymore:

It could be kind of like the Blue Streak area after Valravn was added.

Just leave a few big trees in the park that's all I'm hoping for. :D

Anyone know what's going on with the rather large footers appearing around Frontier town? They appear to have more than just electrical cable coming from them. They also appear to be bigger than just your standard light footer. There are also some flat ground level footers with cables coming from them as well.

If anyone can kindly remind me how to insert a pic I will post what I see (I can't seem to quite figure out how to get the source thing to work.)

I also noticed there is a new wide paved path added parallel to the exit of Bayou Trail. I would assume that has just been added to get heavy machine accross to middle of the island for the fling? Just wonder why they wouldn't drive it around....and it also appears to be a nicer paved path that most would not add just to move construction equipment.

New electrical cables went through the marina parking lot towards Perimeter Road headed in the general direction of Frontier Town. There is still a construction trailer parked in the marina lot by pier 13. No clue what they are doing, but if it is extra power for Mean Streak, it could mean that the ride will have some type of launch somewhere on the circuit.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a new flat ride or two appear in the park for 2018. Likely? Probably not with the cash being dropped into MS and Breakers as well as other cosmetic projects that will likely occur. But with the budget of 2018 apparently being spread over two seasons it could still be possible. I would like to see a western themed Top Scan or Inferno (what CW installed this season) make it's way back there.

Also, new LED packages on current flat rides could be another small improvement throughout some areas of the park.

Dare I say.... a dark ride in Frontier Town? Maybe for 2019.

If an extension was added to the Mean Streak plaza that connected it to the Gemini midway as what is outlined in the picture above, this would open up the area to P&D which could lend itself to a nice size dark ride. Everything that building is used for can easily be moved off property if another building was constructed.

Keeping my hopes up for the Lighthouse Point/Sandcastle entrance gate.

I don't think that's out of the realm, especially in the old STR spot. Alot of that rides former landscaping and some of its themeing is STILL there after glancing over from the 1st lift of CCMR. I was surprised when I looked over there yesterday. I think FT or even off the Frontier Trail would be a great spot for one.

It's the perfect place; at night Frontier Town turns into a Boneville. There's your dark ride. Sort of like playing Castelvania 2.

This was my doodle back awhile back on the old meanstreak thread regarding opening up that area as well. Also when there was a lot of talk about putting a dark ride in the infield.
