Floods

Just took a peek at the webcams and things seem to be getting distressingly... splashy up at the Point. From my viewpoint on Camera 1 it looks like most of the parking lot is underwater.

I know this may seem a silly question due to CP being a nearly waterlocked property, but is crisis-level flooding something we should be worried about? Like... significant property damage scale flooding? This is a lot of rain already, and it's not set to let up for some time.

I dunno, I'm being kind of a nervous nellie I guess. :P I just saw that flooding parking lot and I'm like OH NO.

It doesn't look flooded to me, I just saw a car go through it...just looks like the pavement is extremely wet. Looks just like the main midway :D I'd say as long as we are seeing movement on property with different vehicles all will be okay.

I don't think it's something we as fans should be worried about...there are multiple parks that have been extremely flooded over the past few years and they've came out of the flood(s) fine. I look at Coney Island in Cincinnati....it has flooded more times than I can count on my fingers and toes, but they clean it up after and are ready to go on their opening day.

Tony Clark tweeted that WCO will still go on as planned, even with the wet weather.

Its not raining at a 2-3 inch per hour rate. Its just generally a steady light to moderate rain that will accumulate to a couple of inches over days. There will be lots of standing water around but there wont be any widespread catastrophic flooding.

I've seen the entire main midway flooded after a squall with two or three inches of water. What doesn't drain into the storm sewer just drains into the lagoons.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Obviously Cedar Point isn't worried, Tony tweeted out that Chill Out will be held Saturday as planned. So I would say there is no chance of flooding

Rougarou, Iron Dragon, and Snake will just be closed for high water...

I remember literally having to swim to check the low zone locks of Magnum before where the lift low zone used to butt up to Gemini after a good all night thunderstorm. The park will be fine.

Shout out to 2012 where a squall was so bad that I couldn't see Dragster and just barely see Power Tower. From the Main Midway Arcade.

I've seen fish swimming on the midways and footers for coasters completely submerged yet the park opened a few days later with everything operating as normal. At this point in the year the entire peninsula could flood and it will be fine for opening day.

Week after labor day 2011. :)

That was a fun week.

Heh. Thanks for putting my mind at ease, guys. (Gotta admit, though- fish swimming about the main midway would be a heck of a thing to see.)

It's always fun *note sarcasm* to go into SpeedZone expecting to get out of the wet conditions and then stepping in a giant puddle at the entrance and throughout the store. Although at this point, I shouldn't expect to stay dry in there.

Has this building always had the issue?

I can't help but think that for the water levels to rise enough for a genuine threat to the park that we would need to be worried about it closing for any significant amount of time most of northern Ohio would be in trouble. The river in my backyard is at flood stage right now but honestly it would have to get a whole lot worse before I would worry about it.

Here is a little information for individuals concerned about flooding. Today, the lake water levels are over 2 feet above averages and it is just about to crest over the sheet wall in some of the low spots in the Marina. Average water height is 35" above LWD, right now it is 61.7". Those concerned about Lake Erie flooding the entire park, I think the threat is VERY low. Remember... rainfall does not affect the lake levels, it is the wind that causes the most change. Today it is gusting up to 32 knots NE which is causing the levels to rise. Arcade floods a bunch too, at the Kiddy Kingdom side at least.

Whoa, just checked the webcams today, the beach is literally gone!! At least by wicked twister and windseeker. They say they want to build a boardwalk and add a bar at CP beach, but I don't think it's gonna happen this year and possibly the next few years if the lake keeps this up. I did read awhile back the lake does a 5 year low period and a 5 year high period cycle, and we are in the high period now. I hope some of my favorite beaches on the lake don't vanish!

It does look pretty concerning, but my guess would be the amount of ice melting with the warmer temperatures this past week. I think we will be fine!

Its all wind direction. A strong and sustained Northeast wind pushes the water up against the beach. You would be surprised how quick it recedes once the wind changes direction. The beach, boardwalk and beach bar project will all be fine. This happened a couple of times last year as well. If you are on the bay side in the CP marina, you can literally watch the water drop and rise with the wind.

It will be fine. Today happens to have insanely strong winds that have caused coastal flooding along the shore of Ohio.
