Next Defunct Attractions

The way I see it, dark rides may never happen again at CP. There was that big announcement a few years back about Cedar Fair's "Amusement Dark" portfolio where Ouimet pretty much said all parks in the chain were getting them. Knott's and Wonderland had them at that point, then......nothing. Silence screams. This year, Bush Gardens Williamsburg shuttered their really nice modern dark ride Curse of DarKastle due to, among other things, LOW RIDERSHIP. So my guess, and it IS a guess.....CF/CP decided that dark rides are not good investments for the parks since the original AD announcement. I hope I'm wrong....but I don't expect an attraction like that anymore.

Pirate Timbers.

Don’t know the profitability of the Arcade, but, I think that would be a great spot for a dark ride.

"Never" is a very long time. My take on it is that they weren't entirely satisfied with what was available, so they're holding off, possibly until VR/AR gets further along, considering we're only a few years away from some pretty impressive stuff.

I’m not the biggest fan of dark rides and never understood why everybody wants CP to have one so bad. However, I don’t have a family, and dark rides are typically family attractions.

I was going to say, we had the Best Day Ever at Kings Island, and that was partly due to the dark ride and Race for Your Life Charlie Brown. It really is a lot of fun when the whole family can enjoy something together.

I can understand that. So from a non enthusiast perspective, I suppose a dark ride is a good option due to the lack of family attractions.

I personally would take a flume over a dark ride, but I see the appeal of both and wouldn’t turn up my nose at either. Plus, yeah, it’d be great to have more stuff kids AND parents can enjoy.

If they go pirates how about something more modern? Like Somali pirates. Something along the lines of Captain Philips: The Ride. :)

I was kind of envisioning a dark ride flume. If I were to separate them, I think I pirate themed flume would be really neat and a Peanuts themed dark shooter. If a shooter ends up coming to CP I personally think it would be more popular and just overall more fun if it was more like Toy Story Midway Mania rather than Voyage to the Iron Reef or Boo Blasters.

mmm maybe....

Seems to me that a dark ride in there would have to work around the support structure, require much more maintenance as well as significantly more staff.

Yeah, turning the Coliseum into a dark ride was mentioned before but I think it would be a horrible idea. Not only would the arcade shutdown (bad idea) but the support columns would make a dark ride very impractical, both for the vehicle course and space to set up good scenes and animations. There is plenty of space to build a purpose built building which would be far more desirable for a dark ride.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I vote to turn CCMR into 2 dark rides as a reboot. Have 2 tracks original and think Mystery Mine ....just like how mission Space has 2 intensity options. We had Avalanche Run, MeanStreak, and Mantis, "upgrades" so why not this oldie.

Timber Mountain (Knotts Log Flume) and Blazing Fury (Dollywood Indoor Coaster) are my two favorite non-Disney dark rides. I absolutely do not enjoy the "shooter" type rides.

Heck, I enjoy things like Wacky Shack at Waldameer too.

"Cedar Point is an amusement park, not a theme park" they shout from the rooftops.

What does every amusement park, shoot, funfair have? A Ghost Train!

The theme is obvious; stick to myths & legends with unpronounceable names.

Silverpilen

Make the queue into a walkthough haunted house.

And another thing...

Why does CF get stick for naming a coaster Banshee, but Merlin gets to indulge in such subversive theming as Saw, The Smiler, Oblivion, Th13teen, Swarm, The Walking Dead...

...whilst still remaining family friendly?

Is it a bible belt issue?

If we build it, they will come.

Removing Snake River Falls could clear out a nice area for a new flume. Maybe a flume and dark ride combo, with boats similar to Disney’s Pirates of the Carribean. The ride could be a huge hit without any soaking features. Also using the former STR area on the island can make an interesting layout.

NO. I love my HUGE KERSPLOOSH. I would love a new flume, just not at the expense of the two existing water rides we have already.

Splash Mountain and Timber Mountain are some of my favorite rides of all time. They splash you, but don’t soak you. They’re super fun and family friendly.

There were features of White Water Landing that I loved as well, and it got demolished.
