Wicked Twister?

Has WT not opened up yet for the season? I noticed a crane by it earlier on the webcam. Could be a good sign.

Could the recent tear down of the Sport Stadium possibly spell doom for WT? The ride could definitely use a paint job seeing has it has not been painted since it has opened.

How do you link tearing down a stadium to certain doom for a ride?

Neglect of the ride over the years, rarely opening on time for the season, stadium next to the ride torn down, etc.

Most things weren’t open on time.

True, but Wicked Twister has been netorious for that the last couple of years.

The fact that Wicked Twister wasn't ready is probably mostly due to the fact that getting it ready is a lower priority than other rides. Think of this: how many people would be disappointed on opening day if Wicked Twister isn't ready? Then think of how many people would be disappointed if Top Thrill Dragster isn't ready?

I noticed on Saturday that all of the lights on that midway we're out and they had temporary construction lights up. Perhaps the reason Wicked Twister and MaXair were not running is because they were affected by the power being out on the midway.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

There are many factors that make me think WT is next to go, but then in the back of my mind I don't think it is.

Reasons why it may leave: Neglected paint job, lack of urgency to get it open, declined popularity, CGA announcing in their plans about getting a double twisting impulse, still haven't fixed the foundation issue with the back tower, uses a lot of power/energy per cycle.

Reasons why it would stay: One of the 6 coasters over 200', a thrilling launch, by June is usually reliable throughout the season :), It has a beautiful setting, new landscaping around the ride area.

I know these "reasons" aren't the most credible. It's just some things that I tend to think about. Wicked Twister is one of my favorite rides (hence my username). I would definitely be sad to see it go.

Pouring Concrete is expensive.
Tearing up concrete is expensive.
Pouring new concrete and then tearing it up is a plain waste of money.
Pouring a new concrete boardwalk along a ride that’s getting torn out soon isn’t a wise use of resources.

What’s wrong with WT’s foundation? Also, isn’t the cost of energy waaaaay higher in California? That’s probably a consideration before sending a power hungry ride that way...

ROUNDABOUND.

When did CGA announce a double twisting impulse?

Never thought of that. What time was that at Pete? My friend and I went into town for Church at 4:00 on Saturday and we’re back through the gate a little after 5.

All of that is true, but even if they don’t put in a theatre where Extreme Sports Stadium used to be, and Wicked Twister goes to CGA, they could put in a wild mouse coaster; similar to Wildcat, and a few flat rides. Also, Wicked Twister “might” actually be leaving. Don’t know “for sure”, but when they moved Calypso/Tiki Twirl did anyone notice that they put it right over top of where the Wicked Twister Logo is carved into the cement in the WT Plaza?

Also something else to think about: before anyone says anything; I know this is a lot of moving things around, but if planning and design does a good job with it, it would work perfect.

“If” Wicked Twister stays, move Dodgems to where Extreme Sports Stadium used to be, move the 3 Point Shootout to where the giant umbrellas are by Dodgems, move Tiki Twirl to the old Chaos spot, and you still have room for a couple of new flat rides where the stadium was, and “if” they did that, the giant umbrellas by where Dodgems are would move across the midway. Again, I know that’s a lot of moving, but it could definitely be done.

I respectfully disagree. While it would be a good idea, that setting works better with an Ocean. Anyone been to Ocean City, Maryland?

Jake, I noticed the construction lights maybe around 10 or 10:30 at night when I was going over to Breakers. Figured they had to modify some electrical lines for the stadium demolition and haven't restored power yet.

Last few times I've been there, they've only been running one train, so I'm pretty sure that's a good indicator that they're going to tear it down...

Probably nothing. Or it would’ve been repaired when the excavation equipment already present and concrete was installed for the boardwalk right next to it.
Likely an Enthusiast rumor to promote whatever better idea they have for that location. Seriously, they removed a massive stadium next to the ride and you think they didn’t address a “known” issue with the equipment already there needed to address it. A good portion of the cost for this type of construction is to get the equipment actually on site. When it is you do as much work as possible while it’s there.

✔️Stadium Demolition
✔️Hotel demolition
✔️Excavation for boardwalk
✔️Concrete install for boardwalk
✔️Excavation for new RV sites
✔️Concrete slabs for RV sites
〰️Major Ride foundation repair (oops we forgot?)

A pier would be a good addition but if they add one, I can’t see it being connected to the park. I think they would connect it off of the boardwalk and completely open to the public. My reason being is because one of the featured reasons for the boardwalk was that it connects all the way to the front parking lot. If they added a pier from the AWE Stadium then they would not only defeat that purpose by cutting off the boardwalk, but it would also be a huge waste of already poured concrete.

Gotch ya. I wish I would’ve known you were at Breakers that night. We could’ve had a drink and caught up. Maybe next time.
