Raptor 8-31-18

So raptor was down this afternoon and into the evening and we saw a lift at the bottom of one of the cobra rolls with a maintenance guy grinding and welding on the track.

Curious if anyone knows what may have happened. Never seen that before.

Ride on!!

Word is that a section of the cobra roll needed to be ground and welded.

First ride; Magnum 1994

Sounds like fairly routine maintenance. For them to close the ride is what makes it more interesting, typically they do this type of track work overnight.

I haven't seen anyone grind a cobra roll since I went to a fraternity house dance party in college.

Have seen something of the sort in years past. Likely a high stress area for that track, train, and supports alike.

Was running good tonight... Cobra Roll felt the same in and out, but I only sat on the right side

There is a pretty obvious weld / thud on the left side of the first drop. Has been that way for 15 years or so.

I saw them doing that to a tie on Magnum’s second hill early in the morning when I went to walk on the beach.

After riding Montu this past weekend, too bad they weren't removing the cobra roll on Raptor and replacing it with ANY other element. Since riding Banshee, Afterburn, Montu, Talon and 2 of the Batman clones, I'd take any of them over Raptor. The cobra roll and the turn into the brake run completely ruin Raptor for me. At least it's better than an SLC.

Really? Raptor is one of my favorite B&M inverts, largely due to the cobra roll. That snap is delicious. And if you haven’t learned by now to brace yourself going into the last turn, I don’t know what to tell ya. Letting it “ruin” the ride is silly.

I could do without the brace yourself into the final break run, other than that, I truly enjoy what Raptor has to offer. Back Train, Right Seat, = Best Moment After Leaving Lift Hill

Cobra Rolls have never been an enjoyable coaster element imo. I’ve never been a fan, and Raptor’s is no exception. I also do agree that the turn into the final brake run is awful. Can’t beliebe that has never been worked on since it’s debut.

With that all said, I really do love Raptor: The original B&M roar, the initial drop off of the lift, the zero g roll, and the helix finale. It’s a very well made ride, and I will say, ever since it’s paint job for the 2016 season, it has felt more smooth each time I ride it.
