Mean Streak Gemini'd...

Interesting thought, as I read the CP story...

converting the flat track on Mean Streak to tube steel, ala Gemini. While this would make MS a steel coaster, it's an interesting possibility. I'd imagien it would be loads smoother, especially w/ nylon wheels.
I really have a hard time believing that they'd do that. No,no,no I WANT them to, but I think that they believe that they need a big wooden coaster and maybe they'll retrack it and package it as the next Texas Giant.
There is no law that states that once a coaster has been built that they can't change it later on. Look at Disaster Transport. It was a coaster that was converted from a outdoor to an indoor. MS being converted with tubular rails is a possiblity.

At the dawn of the new millennium they all bowed down to CP realizing they lost the war.
I think MS is fine just the way it is. I rode it over the summer, and I didnt find it to be all that rough. Its a little dull after the mid course brakes, but the first half is a blast.

The Samurai has spoken.
CP wouldn't do that because it would be too similar to Gemini. The real answer is to retrack it and put new coasters on the track whose wheels move more freely with the contour of the track. Then everyone would be happy.
If CP did that they would a have a giant Gemini that didn't race anything. That would be no fun either! The fact is that it is CP's major wooden coaster they wouldnm't retrack it just because it is a rough(fun) ride. Isn't that what a wooden coaster is supose to be?
The problem w/ Mean Streak is that it is rough in a bad way and after the first drop, is basically a train ride.

Go to MIAdv and ride Shivering Timbers. Tell me then what a good wooden coaster should feel like.
Agreed but at the size and hieght of MS there is going to be rough spots. I guess on this it is more than others. But if you but steel tubing on it it would be no fun!!! (except maybe the first drop)
a good woodie should feel like Blue Streak "Crossed" with Mean Streak. i think that MS is in a transitionary phase..i.e. it is just now getting "broken in". the American Eagle went through the same thing...if it ain't broke don't fix it. the roughness will do one of two things as the coaster breaks in...it will get better or worse. either way, i don't think it's broke, and judging from the fact that i waited longer for MS than for Mantis, neither does the GP or CP. i love it like it is...why can't we just leave this alone?

Yeah, he's right. American Eagle (sadly sfgam bing my home park only 15 minutes away... making the 6 hour drive to Sandusky every summer...) was bad at first... Now it's not as bad. Dull, not a twister.. Why couldn't MS be Texas Giant?

Well, it didn't get Gemini'd, but MS sure did get hybrid'd. And what a ride it's turned into. It needs to be May 2019 already.

It’s fun to read the 1999 version of everyone talking about rmc before rmc was a thing and having no idea what would become of mean streak. Did they ever do a Gemini makeover to mean streak? Well yeah, you could say that.

This is my favorite comment.

Debuting in 2020: A new coaster! Sure, it will suck for the first decade, but don't worry, it's just in the "breaking in phase" that some coasters go through.

Let's hope steel vengeance won't have all those problems it had its opening year in this year.

As a kid, I thought of Mean Streak getting Gemini-type track overlaid onto it as well.

RMC wasn't even the first to do it technically. Bobsleds at Seabreeze is also a wood-steel conversion, but on a much smaller scale.

Hybrid rides have been around as well for a while. Cedar Creek Mine ride is a hybrid. Also the coney island cyclone has steel supports and wooden track.

^I'm aware, but I was specifically talking about converting woodies to steel. But yeah, wood-tracked hybrids have been around for a long time (Crystal Beach Cyclone was one too) while some of the earliest modern steel coasters were steel-track hybrids (like CCMR.)

What's funny about this zombie thread is - It's older than some of the Mean Streak / Gemini Ride ride hosts for this upcoming summer...

^The Mean Streak ride hosts will probably be a little confused come opening day... :)
