Sandcastle Suites

"The park’s Sandcastle Suites and nearby Breakers Express Hotel also are slated for renovations between now and 2015."

Was supposed to happen almost three years ago, it was never going to see a reno. That was just speculation on The Blade's part. Those articles are indeed a load of garbage.

It's been a little while. But anyone have any info on what's replacing the rest of the area occupied by Sandcastle? The new luxury campsites took over the location of the former Breakwater Cafe and a few parking spots. That still leaves a huge chunk of land. Towards the end of the season, a new stone breakwall was seen being put in place on the beach (meaning more buildable land, less/no beach).

I find it interesting that Sandcastle and Cedars have both been demolished, with no word on what is replacing either. Those are two prime lakefront locations.

Nothing official from the park other than future development. The Cedars doesnt have a prime lakefront location. It has marina parking lot frontage.

I was wondering about this area as well. Since you cannot swim at that end of the beach....it seems to be just land going to waste. No one walks back there anyway, and the new camping sites aren't even really close to the beach. It's a dead zone almost, and that nasty brown seaweed-like substance washes up there, making it undesirable to walk over there. I hope they stabilize it or do a landfill so something useful can go in someday.
