2019 Ride/ Attraction Anniversary dates...

Had some downtime (man, its been a slow, long off-season hasn't it?) so here's some notable anniversary years (for things that are STILL there) coming up for the 2019 season. Enjoy!

5th - Pipe Scream, Lake Erie Eagles

20th - Camp Snoopy

25th - Raptor (dam, I feel old)

30th - Magnum XL 200. (even older now!)

40th- Wave Swinger and Wilderness Run (the former Jr. Gemini)

50th - Cedar Creek Mine Ride

55th- Blue Streak.

Was there for the debut for all but 2 of these, how about you?

I was there for Pipe Scream/Eagles (last open media event/preview CP held :( just saying...)

And I existed for Camp Snoopy, but that was my birth year.

^^ The only thing from that list that I remember being there for it's debut season was Raptor. We took a school bus trip from Pittsburgh to CP for a day, and Raptor was a lot of firsts for me, invert, inversions, stuff like that.

If I remember correctly, I was at the park for Magnum's debut. Unfortunately, I was just a small thing of 6 and couldn't ride it yet (not that I would have, I absolutely remember that gigantic red hill scaring the bejeezus out of Tiny Me.)

Proud 5th Liner and CP fan since 1986.

I'm going to have to wait until 2021 for the 45th Anniversary of The Corkscrew. That was the year of my first trips to The Point. Hard to believe what a big deal three inversions was at the time - but it was. Arguably the beginning of the "World's Record" linage of America's Roller Coast.

My friend and I were 1st of the #2 to get in the waiting line to ride the Magnum XL 200 the Opening Day of 1989. We got stuck getting out of the station, stuck going up the 1st Hill, and getting stuck out of the Last Tunnel. It was smooth at the time, but I still will ride it. I was 8 years old at the time too. I also should say we did run to the Mean Streak to be the 1st in 1991.

I remember being there for Magnum's opening season during my freshman year of high school with our school Spanish club. I remember waiting what seemed like an obscene amount of time to get on the ride, but thinking that it was totally worth it afterwards. Hard to believe that was 30 years ago this year!

Magnum is actually what got me back into Cedar Point. I went to the park in 2016 as part of an event by my dad's workplace. I saw Magnum and wanted to ride it out of curiosity and loved it.

Looking at this again - we've seen the signage and attention paid to CCMR and Magnum, but so far nothing to highlight Raptor turning 25. I find this kind of odd considering both its debut year being a benchmark for attendance and its status as many kids' first "big coaster" - kids that may now have kids of their own who are able to ride.

I'm hoping they have something cool planned - even if it's simply playing *that* time lapse video on the FUN TV screens in line or, preferably, the semi-famous announcement video from the spring of 1994.

I can agree with this. However, Raptor did get a beautiful new paint job, new LED lift lights, and some attention to the trains in 2016. Perhaps bringing back the DJ in the queues for the weekends would be cool.

That would be cool - especially if the music selection was period specific.

What I'm saying is, lots of me dad-grooving to early 90s dancehall music.

Offering high fives to uncomfortable high school kids on their after prom trips and saying "Whoomp! (There It Is)"

With the idea of bringing DJ's back to the queues being discussed, a light bulb went off in my head. It may be worth the park looking into getting TouchTunes or a similar app that would allow guests to control playlists for the queues. It'd be another way to generate some revenue and add some fun to waiting in the queues. I'm not sure how the curation of available music on those apps works, but it may be cool to have some queues' selection limited to songs of the rides' respective eras.
