How embarrassing!

OMG What, are they still getting the river ride we were promised?

No 2 year celebration??!! I am not going back to Cedar Point. Ever. LOL

Being clear here, not complaining, they can do what they want, and I will go. I just see people posting all the time that it's a 2 year celebration.......it is not, that was cancelled a while ago.

I don't get why a milestone has to be celebrated with a new world-class attraction. What did the park add in 1995 for the 125th? Or in 1970 for the 100th? Nothing significant comes to mind on either of those. Raptor opened in 94 so that wasn't the 125th anniversary celebration attraction. And KI is adding Orion, a GIGA coaster in 2020, KI's 48th season. If milestones meant anything, they would be adding that in 2022 for KI's 50th, but they're not. The parks don't celebrate milestones by adding a new major attraction. It will likely just be banners, and other things inside the park.

Well, I can tell you about 1970. First, let’s keep in mind that 70 was about the time that amusement parks were thinking about upping their game with “significant” attractions. Otherwise you might expect a new flat or some paint with each new season. The owners of Cedar Point, knowing that Disneyland was not going to be just a flash in the pan, were already doing their best to bring that kind of experience to the Midwest. The 60’s saw major additions that included two large, permanent coasters, a couple of dark rides, a rescue of an antique carousel, and sparkling midways, something that was basically not happening in our nation at the time.

1970 brought an extension to the Funway with the addition of the Million Dollar Midway and a total of ten new rides sprinkled through the park. Wildcat, Schwabinchen, Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Monster, Calypso, Super Himalaja, a new Western Cruise dock, a new CP&LERR depot, and a “new” Tiki Twirl (from the original Calypso) were some of the installations. The Centennial Theater opened that year as well as other entertainment and food venues, like Hofbrau.
A “million dollars” went a long way in ‘70, and I’d reckon even more was actually spent, but compare all that work with today’s inflated prices and it would be a significant expenditure.

And not to argue or complain. It’s true they can do what they want and business will go on as usual. And my guess is they will do something to ride the coat tails of the 150th season, but in the end celebrating a park’s milestone season and then again it’s actual birthday was maybe a bit of a confusing reach if nothing else. Guests will be made aware of the anniversary celebration, it’ll be a good time, then we can wait for the next and all future significant additions.

I hope and I do know that the "boys" at Cedar Fair do read these and are watching what we post. Trust me anything we post good, day or ugly will get back to them to inspire and make things happen. The heart, soul, and mind behind many things are we the people who give a dam, who stand up and put our hands up to ride. We must keep this conversation thriving and drive the most important message. We do not give up on and we love our park period!

"Clear" That is all I have to say and I know whatcha mean silly.

Operations and maintenance are a great place to start looking to improve on.

Operations: Get out there and find your staff. Retain staff by showing them their worth and not how passive aggressive you can be when they ask a simple question. Train your staff the importance of not only safety (because that is #1 priority), but efficiency and urgency when operating. Lastly, get rid of IROC. What an absolutely joke.

Maintenance: Trust me, I understand rides break down. But the amount of mechanical down time this year has been outrageous. It’s very clear that knowledge of ride maintenance has declined since the departure of a previous manager.

What makes it very clear?

Brandon

If you’ve been paying attention (assuming you’ve been to the park enough times), the lack of ride availability for early entry is a start. Not to mention, the amount of down time through out the day is more than we’ve ever seen before.

But how are you able to conclusively identify root cause of the downtime as being due to "the departure of a previous manager"? There are a huge amount of variables to consider, after all. How are you able to conclusively eliminate those factors?

I'm not saying you're definitely wrong. But to suggest you are sure that the downtime is caused by that one factor seems like a huge stretch, especially if you're basing your conclusion on rides not being available for ERT when you're there.

Brandon

Dude, you look way to far into things. It doesn’t look like I eliminated any variables at all. Rather I just didn’t state all of them. Having worked closely with the maintenance department, I am confident enough to say that lack of knowledge is evident in the park these past couple of seasons. Is that the ONLY factor? Absolutely not. But I didn’t think I had to clarify that.

Why not lead with this when criticizing the maintenance staff? It sounds a hell of a lot better than the original implication, which was basically "I saw lots of rides down this year, gotta be due to the maintenance staff".

The latter sounds no different than something like "they need a 500-footer, 'cause it would be cool," which is why I pointed it out.

At any rate, how much more downtime has there been this year compared to last?

Because I didn’t think I had to.

It sounds a hell of a lot better than the original implication, which was basically "I saw lots of rides down this year, gotta be due to the maintenance staff".

Even if that’s what my statement was based off of, when you see less and less rides prepared for early entry, park opening, or experiencing a lot more down time than normal, who else is to blame other than the maintenance department?

The latter sounds no different than something like "they need a 500-footer, 'cause it would be cool," which is why I pointed it out.

This is by far the worst comparison I’ve seen you make. One of them is a basic observation while the other is an unrealistic wish (at least right now it is). I don’t think it’s too much to ask that the maintenance department shows a little bit more sense of urgency when walking up the exit of Steel Vengeance to assess the issue when there is a queue full of guests waiting to ride the best new ride of 2018.

At any rate, how much more downtime has there been this year compared to last?

Well, considering the park doesn’t release numbers for a multitude of reasons, I don’t think that is anybody’s business. But like I said, if you have been paying attention, you will notice a lot of unhappy park goers especially this year in terms of lack of available rides open when they’re scheduled to be open.

I’m simply giving constructive criticism, man. Anybody that I have talked to has said something along the lines of “I can’t believe all of the rides that are down”. It’s not a good look for the park, and I’ve heard a lot of people compare the situation to Six Flags. Let’s be honest here, there is A LOT of work that needs to be done, and it starts with the higher ups.

Bad luck? Happenstance? Weather? Normal variability? A manufacturer who takes several weeks to supply replacement parts? Any combination of those, including or not declining performance by maintenance staff?

That's all I'm getting at - that there are a huge number of potential factors, so it seems like a stretch to put the blame all at the feet of bad attitudes or whatever in the maintenance department.

One of them is a basic observation...

It was my observation during my visits this year that most or all rides were open on time, for the most part.

...you will notice a lot of unhappy park goers especially this year in terms of lack of available rides open when they’re scheduled to be open.

...I’ve heard a lot of people...

Every year we hear this argument - lines are too long, rides are never open, the food sucks, they didn't build Ride X, etc. And I'm not saying all of those complaints are invalid. Just that coming to a conclusion based on anecdotal observation of downtime and complaints isn't a compelling argument as far as I'm concerned.

And at the end of the day, it is also my observation that people are still beating down the door to get in the place, and that observation is backed up by data by way of CF's quarterly/annual reports.

Brandon

Let’s straighten this out a bit...

It might sound a bit crazy, but when a ride is down for MECHANICAL reasons, weather is not to blame. I’m also giving up on the fact that it is a coincidence that things are not open on time when they’re scheduled to be time after time.

The maintenance department just isn’t what it used to be, and that’s why you have rides scheduled to open later ie: Windseeker and Wicked Twister OR rides that are hardly ever opened on time. It is NOT coincidence, so perhaps stop giving the pass and realize there is a problem when it happens quite frequently.

Lastly, if you paid attention last season, nobody was beating the door down to get to Cedar Point at all. Lower ticket discounts and the amazing Gold Pass offerings are what are driving guests this year and I don’t think that’s a secret.

Lol u Cedar point fan boy arnt You always asking for more than other parks get. Maybe they need 2 off years for the HUGH celebration there throw next year because of the 4 coaster they got last year and Orion this year. Just relaxe and sit back and enjoy your ride on the world best amusement park, and to be honest i would love to see and gurshlauer or and S&S Sky Roller like Skyhawk at CWL. Or electro spin at Carowinds, that was one of my favorite flat rides on my trip last year and i went to KD Carowinds Dorney SFGA and SFA. and the only other ride or flat ride came close was berserker.
