What they’re working on for 2020

A few years ago I checked and at the time you could still get a newer version of the key chain viewer at the park but you couldn't buy it separately, it was part of a package and I wasn't about to buy a $35 package just so my kid could experience owning a keychain viewer.

Skyhawk, you keep mentioning sailing charters. How exactly do you think that would work and what kind of boats? In general to charter an uncaptained sailboat you need a US Sailing Association certification. How many people do you think have that around here? Would you let some rando rent your $10k sailboat? How would you handle the situation if they get out in the lake and turtle the thing or get stuck in the irons and can’t figure out how to get out? I did it once and couldn’t remember the procedure and spent a good half hour stuck until I finally figured it out by chance. You need a highly trained staff and equipment to deal with those kinds of situations.

Knowing how to safely sail takes a lot of training it is not as intuitive as a jet ski that has two controls, a steering wheel and throttle. As you well know from sailing camp, sailing takes a lot of brain power. CP can’t even properly staff a burger stand. If you want to charter a boat I suggest you call some of the already established business in the area because I don’t see CF ever wanting compete in that space.

I saw a properly staffed burger stand a few weeks ago. It was closed, thus they had 0 workers staffing it. Win!

About the sailing charters, how about change it to sailing rentals? I went to Lakeside Chataqua over the summer several times and they'd let you rent a Sunfish(or laser) for one or two hours. I'd love to see Cedar Point do that for 2020.

The last time CP did something like that was back in the 1961 season. Boats were rented by the hour/ day. I would think that insurance purposes and litigation over the years killed those ideas quickly.

Skyhawk, haven't we had this discussion before? I could've sworn we had an entire thread about it and all the bajillion reasons why it was a bad idea.

You must really really REALLY want to get on a sailboat. XP

I hope they announce details of they're new riverboat expedition sometime next week. I know Tony tweeted last week he was working on writing the details for it so hopefully after this weekend, we see something.

It’s really gotta take a long time to try and write a fluff piece for a paddle wheel ride that they just removed recently.
Talk about a ****ty job. Since he barely returned to CP he’s had basically two good things to promote, and one crashed on opening day.

Opening Day - Cedar Point 2018.

3 rides on Steel Vengeance.

How, Early Entry, (1) Fast Lane Plus Ride, + (1) ride at 9:00 P.M. when Jason McClure opened the ride back up and let about 400 people into the queue to end the night.

When the bumping accident occurred, I never seen the higher ups converge onto a ride like they ever did in the past.

They came out of the woodwork and were on the ride platform within minutes.

As for 2020 who knows, we will see...……...

What... There were like two individuals there above the ride supervisor level, and none were above a mid level manager higher up. CP police and EMS were the majority in the area checking on guests and taking information.

With Knotts announcing a dark ride from Triotech, I'm wondering if Cedar Point has plans to pull the trigger on a dark ride using the old Pirate Ride building. Currently, it is used as a cleaning supply warehouse, and used partially for Halloweekends as Boo Hill. I wonder if it's even possible, but it would be a great addition. I think a present day state of the art reimagined Pirate Ride would be great for the 150th, and a nice nostalgic surprise as well.

^ It would be great if they put in a dark ride (not a shooter) in the spot where the old Pirate Ride used to be, but demolished that old junky building to do it - so as to not be restrained by its low ceilings and footprint.

Last edited by CPVet,

I still think the most obvious place to put a dark ride is in the *enormous* footprint above the games buildings. It would be tricky because clearance would have to be maintained for truck access to the existing warehouses below, but they could put a gigantic show building there and nobody would even notice it. Actually such a project would give them a good reason to demolish and replace the entire Games building there, but the new building could look exactly like the old one...except the upper facade would hide the show building instead of the warehouse courtyard.

I seriously doubt they would demolish the Coliseum since its on the National Register of Historic Places.

So was the Hotel Breakers.

I believe RideMan is talking about the Midway Games area and not the Coliseum that houses the arcade, operations offices, ballroom and wardrobe.

Nobody said anything about destroying the Coliseum.

Found the lighthouse registry:

https://www.eriecountyohiohistory.com/museums-historic-sites/cedar-point/

Not seeing the coliseum on the registry, looking further.

The building exterior is currently mostly a modern cinder block style construction now, not sure if it rates registry status. Going to look further into this.

I do love the ballroom design and the roof architecture, other than that the exterior is pretty bland and almost an eyesore.

Edit: https://npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/82001385

I found this about it, not a lot of detail.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_...usky,_Ohio

If you do click on the picture of the coliseum with the skeleton on it you can clearly see the cinder block in detail, I wonder when that block was added to the structure from its original design.
