So long, Midway Sky Ride?

My favorite non-coaster ride in the park. Prior and Church did some great things "back in the day", although admittedly I wasn't around yet.

I love the feeling of there being an element of risk. I'm frankly surprised that nobody has gotten hurt on this ride (that I'm aware of).

I'm not exactly sure of the year, but I am pretty sure it was 1990 or 1991, when there was some sort of medical emergency at Cedar Downs. Not sure if it was a result of someone falling off the ride though.

There are three. Cedar Point, Rye, and Blackpool.

I checked and you're right, my apologies. I meant one of only two in the U.S.

I hurt myself getting off of it once had a pretty decent size bruise but I managed to limp off like nothing happened.

Well, there's that giant tower at the end. Also, the buildings are all themed and have multiple flags on them. You know....obvious things.

Sky Ride isn't going to be leaving any time soon -- it's incredibly cheap to run and still gets some of the highest ridership numbers in the park.

I can see the maintenance being pretty low, but it seems to take a lot of people to operate. I'd definitely miss it, try to ride it every visit!

I don't see Sky Ride going anywhere either. I think the cable has only been replaced once?

You are incorrect.

Ok. I wasn't sure, other than remembering the cable replacement about 15 years ago.

What is the typical lifespan of the cable?

So will we see Sky ride go wireless next year?

Not sure they'll take Sky Ride wireless. It is more of a family ride. There are a few other rides in the park that will give you close to the 5G you are looking for and the park is always working on upgrades as new technology comes out.

Another note about the parades down the main midway, they do this with the Peanuts Gang for Halloween and the lanes are more than wide enough for them to proceed down the Coliseum side. I'd actually love to see them go the other route and rebuild the Frontier Lift. Not likely to happen, but I do remember as a child looking down over the trees....

Just checked the webcam and the sky ride looks like it's still there and there doesn't seem to be any indication that they're tearing it down. Must have just been a rumor. Whew! (provisionally, although I would think if they were tearing it down the demolition would have started already.)

I think the rumor was started by you, but... ok.
