2017 Platinum Pass Benefits

XS NightClub's avatar

Since this topic hasn't been started yet, I though I'd start one for the changes that people encounter since the season is coming together:

Today while booking reservations, I noticed that Sandcastle Suites has now joined Lighthouse RV Sites & Cabins as no longer available for the pass discount rate.

Also: Speaking with a reservations clerk, since the Lighthouse Point map is missing from the website, they are working on integration of the Lighthouse Point reservations with the Map. Which is much better than hoping your cabin/site request was seen or entered.

The platinum pass benefits page doesn't say anything about resort discounts at all:

https://www.cedarpoint.com/tickets-passes/platinum-pass-benefits

I used the pass discount for Sandcastle once last year because the one night I wanted to stay for Coastermania was sold out at the Coastermania rate. This is a bit of a disappointment, but I'll be alot more prepared for Coastermania this year and book it immediately.

They're still available for Breakers and the hotel formerly known as Breakers Express. I didn't bother to check Castaway (not that many people really do).

Since the Hotel discount used to be featured as a benefit in the past and now its no longer listed in the benefits section, it seems they may be gauging the phasing out of the rate discount all together.

The pass discount has for at least a couple seasons been limited in both when and where you could use it. I suppose phasing certain properties out completely is the next logical step.

Though I would much rather see the price of the pass go up significantly than to see the lodging discount go away.

I never really used the lodging discount since we don't stay at the resorts. What I do find of great value is the 10% off merchandise and food purchases. I use that quite a bit eating at Famous Dave's, Quaker Steak & Lube and Bay Harbor, particularly in the off-season. 10% off at Bay Harbor can quickly add up to some nice savings.

If anyone learns of a discount for camper village, I'd love to hear about it.

Chris

I would also love to see some discounts for Camper Village (Lighthouse Point), Carowind's Camp Wilderness gives 10% with your pass. I know it'll never happen though, the sites at CP are always sold out through the summer. The prices for their "parking spots" are getting a bit out of hand though, $122/nt. during Halloweekends = ouch! I say that, but I've already got my sites booked there for May, June, July, August & September. Carowinds site is also booked for August for our trip down to Myrtle Beach. I love booking on the payment plan, when summer comes around it's like camping for free. LOL

What about October/Halloweekends, tmilicia?

Nooooooooooooo! Lodging discounts are one of the perks I never use.

We are gonna be in Myrtle Beach in August, too! You gonna be Inn South Carolina for the solar eclipse?

The perk of having a house on the causeway less than a minute from the park is also nice. :)

We have Halloweekends in September booked. October weekends are a madhouse up there and we like to try and avoid that for as much as a camping weekend up there costs. We have an October camping weekend booked down at Kings Island for their Halloween Haunt. It's too bad Kings Island sold their campground land to Great Wolf Lodge, the closest campground now is about 10 minutes away.

Unfortunately, no. That would have been cool to see though. We'll be camping down there at PirateLand the week before the solar eclipse.

^See I'm cool with them selling it to GWL.

I'm not a camper..ever. Nice hotel, bed, running water, and preferably a bar.

That's why they should turn Breakwater Cafe into a nightclub, all lodging should have a bar within walking distance

Having a boat in the marina might one-up that. :)

Ten whole minutes away? Hashtag First World Problems.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

You used to be able to walk to the park from the campground. Now I hardly ever spend the night down there.

My aunt & uncle always rave about PirateLand, they go every year. I'm not sure WHERE in Myrtle Beach we will be, because I'm not sure if we are gonna pull the camper for this trip. Setting up & tearing down (we have a TrailManor, think hard sided pop-up camper) 4-5 times in 9 days may get a bit old...

We have all that too, plus we don't have to worry about what kind of dirty person slept in the bed before us. :)

I know, but Lighthouse Point has us spoiled.

PirateLand is nice, we were there 2 years ago. Last year we stayed at Ocean Lakes, it was nice, but unbelievably crowded. Why would you have to tear down and setup your camper so many times?

Our trip is gonna be a multi-stop journey. Rochester, NY to Arlington, VA overnight to visit friends. Then on to Myrtle Beach, SC for a few days including the solar eclipse. From there we are going to Carowinds, we will stay there two nights to have a full day in the park. On to Kings Dominion, 2 nights again to allow a full day in the park. Then home to Rochester, NY. That's 4 campsites to set-up/tear-down, plus loading and unloading the camper at home.

That's quite the rig you have there! What do you pull that monstrosity with? I'd post pics of my TrailManor but I can't ever find the button to do so on PointBuzz or CoasterBuzz. Pretty sure it's because 99.9% of the time I'm on my cell or tablet. But it's pretty cool, it's a 30ft fully enclosed camper that folds down like a pop-up and is 26' bumper to tongue when towing.
