$3 soda = criminal

hmmm... $3.00/bottle seems kinda high. Especially for a bottle of water.
I like saying No Ice it works alot for me. And Then on top of that a cup of ice at the next booth.

wait untill next year, when they build the new coaster. The price of pop will be $3.50,can't wait!

Don;t worry CedarPoint! It's not that expensive in the employee cafe.Less than a doller for a cup you can refill as much as you want.

"500 posts on gttp?Boy do I have WAY too much time on my hands or what?"

BTW I do agree about chet and matts great place to eat.

"Thats Not Cheese."

BTW I have gotten a great idea to combat this price hike. Begin writing letters to Pepsi Cola telling them that you wont buy their product anymore becasue you like to hit us with $3.00 soda at your retailers.

I wouldn't think Pepsi would care that much if we wrote letters to them. They get their pay for the product they sell CP. Then whatever CP charges is up to marketing folks at the park. I work at Pizza Hut and we get bottled drinks to sell on the side and I think it's a MAJOR rip off. We get 20 oz drinks for like .69 a bottle and then turn around and sell them for 1.29. Two-liters are just as bas too. We buy them for .99 and sell them for 1.99. It's actually pretty embarassing to tell someone the prices when they ask.

I don't think marketing sets the drink prices. Am I wrong?

I don't know, but I would be willing to bet that Cedar Point doesn't pay a dime for the soda. I'm sure Pepsi treats it as a huge marketing opportunity.

perhaps the park wants more people to walk away from the machines to get the fountain soda. At the same time the profit margin on the bottles go way up. While not privy to their costs i would wager that a bottle runs them at about $.60 while a cup of fountain soda runs about $.05 or so. That's a profit difference of about fourty cents.

I would wager that the park does pay for the product, but gets some sort of kick-back for the volume sold. That was standard for Coke in my experience. While my numbers are based on another experience i had in the recent past, in that case the fountain soda was sold at a better rate than the bottles because of the difference in volume sold. Really buying any pop from a park is putting the money right into their pockets. That is exactly why Holiday World's practice is so amazing. Think of all of the lost potenetial revenue

So.....With all the talk of $3 for a 20oz. How much for a Cheese on a Stick this year? Or a Coasters burger?

gener: Trust me, Holiday World isnt losing a dime! They are just getting their money in a slightly different way. While they may be the friendliest people in the business, they aint dummies. They are still making money, according to reports, more money than when they were selleing the soda.

BTW: Now they are giving sunscreen away as well

Being that myself and my friend are Dorney Park employees, we ate at the employee caf the past 2 years we've gone, I was never even asked to show an ID either.

Just HAD to get in on this conversation. Jeff is right.

The brother-in-law of my husband's co-worker (are you following this?) works for Pepsi. CP pays NOTHING for that $3.00 Pepsi. It is pure profit.

We had a great day at CP on Mother's Day. Waited for a break in the rain, then drove there and had a wonderful afternoon! (We bought Season Passes - first time ever).

We have 2 year old triplets and spent the entire day (more or less) in Kiddie Kingdom. A CP employee took several pictures of our kids on the "police cars." Maybe they'll be in an ad some time! The advantage to going to CP with three kids is all that storage space in the strollers for coolers! We didn't spend a dime on drinks.

Betty

Unsure about the cooler thing but let's keep in mind CP IS A BUSINESS...It is their right to MAKE MONEY...If you don't like it don't go...Compare CP VALUE to other ENTERTAINMENT...Have you been to a Movie lately.

While I do not condone the $3 pepsi, guess how much it is a Jacob's Field this season ($3.50).

If anyone is making book on it, I bet before July 4th we will see the machine Pepsi back down to at least $2.50 if not all the way to $2.00.

I think that the concentration on the per cap has gotten way out of control. How much is a locker now? $2.50?
The difference between sporting/other events and CP is CP is not paying for the pepsi products up front (if what Jeff and Betty say is true). Marking up a product that you purchase to sell to gain profit is understandable. But marking up a free product to such an outrageous cost is not.

We can't be sure if the Indians are paying for Pepsi products, or if they have a deal similar to CP. In any case, it only costs about 5 cents to make a fountain drink, so they may as well get it for free. The last time I went to a movie theater, they wanted $4.65 for a Coke and $4.50 for a medium bag of popcorn. All these places are outrageous, CP really isn't any worse than other venues, but it still feels like rape regardless. Of course, maybe I'm just showing my age. I saw some kids buy a $2.50 bottle of water last year to pour over their heads 'cause they were hot. If enough people have that kind of an attitude, then maybe the $3.00 pop is here to stay. Maybe I'll just have to stick to beer, a $4.00 beer is a much better value than a $3.00 pop!

Pete, that point about the beer is the best one I've read yet!
