Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

All the suites on the second floor of the tower don't have balconies. So instead of the balcony, you just have a little bit bigger of a room. The glassed in patio suites are probably the 2 Horizon Suites on the 2nd floor of the Tower. Those have always been "glassed in" where all the floors above have the big balcony.

I just wanted to say that Breakers room rates have gone up a ton this year. It's very expensive. I made a Google Doc, with all of the current Hotel Breakers rates for the season. ALL of the rates are WITH a platinum pass discount. The ones that say NP, mean you cannot use a discount. The rate next to the day is for that night, the hours are for that day. These rates only apply to the Standard Room. Click Here For The Link.

Those rates seem fair to me, now that they have refreshed the rooms.

Ya, I guess you're right. It was a very expensive investment after all. I didn't mean to say they're very expensive, they're just a little bit higher than last year. I'm sure the hotel's going to look great in the end, I can't wait.

I hope we get to see some of these rooms at the Chill Out.

We stayed at Breakers 2 different times last year, the first was in May and the second was over the 4th of July. The rates for the same dates in May seem to be about $20 higher per night for the same room but over the 4th they actually seem the same or somewhat cheaper than what we paid last year.

As long as they hit whatever occupancy targets they have I am sure the rates will continue to rise. With the major improvements they are making people are likely more willing to pay higher rates as well. I am looking forward to seeing all of the improvements this spring, it has been a long time coming and I am really happy to see them making this type of investment in Breakers.

Notice how much more dynamic the pricing is compared to the Kinzel era. It's pretty obvious the guy in the corner office knows something about running hotels.

Im sorry i feel a little behind. What was the verdict on the Bon air section of the hotel. To me it seemed as though that was one of the sections that really needed an upgrade. Is it the whole hotel thats being referbished?

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed to be demolished.

Bon Air was confirmed to be demolished. The demolition of that section could be completed during the regular season without much of an impact to any guest areas so I doubt it is high on their priority list right now.

I've also been wondering why the Bon Air section hasn't been demolished yet. Wouldn't it make more sense to tear that part of the hotel down before building up the rest? They could have done the demolition while removing much of the entrance wing.

As for doing it during the season, I'd find that pretty unappealing as a guest. The wing is close enough to the hotel that it would likely create a disturbance, not to mention an eyesore.

Any chance the park has reconsidered getting rid of the wing entirely?

Thrills Around the Corner!

Completing the rooms that will make the park money this season would be priority. Generating revenue is always most important. Demolition of that wing can be completed in a few days and assuming it will be replaced with a parking lot, black top can be placed in a few more. Once the demo begins I beleive it will take under a week as prep work was likely done already (ex. removing furnature) .

Maybe after the demolition of GTT is done, the demolition crew will move on to Bon Aire.

I wouldn't find it at all troublesome if they were tearing down Bon Air in May after the season started. Then again, somehow we managed to stay at Breakers last May and have a great time. Even though there were workers in manlifts all around the tower section, they were installing awnings by the pools, and the grounds around the entire hotel were still torn up from the exterior work. Despite all that somehow we managed to have a great time.

Last fall when the boardwalk was closed, large sections of the interior of the hotel were walled off, and they were tearing out a pool, we once again managed to have great time.

I am not saying that I know they will tear down Bon Air after the season starts, but the fact remains that they could easily do so without any real impact to the guests staying at Breakers or visiting Cedar Point itself.

They needed to get that section demolished quickly so they could begin the long process of constructing the new entrance. Bon Aire won't be replaced by anything significant, so there's no need to rush.

Brandon

Didn't the park previously state February as the timeframe for Bon Aire removal?

Thabto's avatar

That would make sense. I'm assuming the same demolition crew that's working on GTT will be doing the Bon Aire demoltion. GTT is almost completely gone now and February is less than a week away.

It looks like they are starting the demolition of Bon Aire right now.

Is it publicly know what the plan for that area is? An eventual addition to the tower perhaps ?

Indeed they are. Do you think they will add more rooms in that space in the coming years? Or do you think they will just put parking in there?
