Cedar point beach, what would you do?

Ditto. :)

^ I know!! Volleyball bathing suit wedgies!! gotta love em! :)

I never realized that the swim area on the beach was roped so small now. It sounds like they need to hire some real lifeguards that have proper training for an open lake like Lake Erie.

I do know the life guards and CP police have always chased the boaters off the beach for many years if you got even remotely close to the shoreline :) and the water along Cedar Point beach is shallow for quite a way out in most areas before you start getting over 8 ft (you'll notice in the summer most boats, not jet skis, never come in very close). I'm guessing they have such a small swim area in probably a very shallow area so they really don't have to deal much with the possibility of an under-tow current.

Yeah, the swim area is tiny. I remember the beach as a kid in the 60's and 70's exactly as Cpt. Pat describes. It really was quit a great beach. They seem to be a little more relaxed about the boaters now, as we walked up to shore a number of times from the boat this summer and did not get chased off.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Don't mean to bring up a zombie thread here but I noticed something interesting the other day at the CP beach. Now, usually when you swim out of that roped area you will get whistled at, but this past Saturday I noticed people swimming all over! Like right in front of Windseeker people were all over in the water right there... Just an interesting observation.

I noticed that too. We walked all the way down to the Magnum pretzel and there were people swimming out there.

My assumption would be perhaps a shortage of lifeguards that day, meaning they didn't have one available to walk up and down the beach. In the past they've pulled people from Ripcord to patrol the beach, but they could have been short too.

Since someone pulled up this Zombie thread, I'll add this idea. Open up Bubbles Bar to everyone, Build a beach themed restaurant/bar (like a Margaritaville) by the beach path next to Bubbles and connect the two. Have appropriate entertainment at both places. Bubbles would still be accessible from Soak City, but the present Bubbles entrance would be a readmission entrance. This would be fun and add a lot of value to Resorts guests by giving them access to the complex.

Since I only go to CP in the fall now, and haven't been to Soak City in at least 15 yrs., I have no idea what or where bubbles bar is.

Wasn't bubbles once accessible from the path?

Bubbles is an adults-only swim-up bar located in SC, but it's somewhat hidden. There's a path between the mat racers (formerly speed slides, now Dragster H2O) and the large slide tower immediately right of Dragster H2O.

Thanks for the info DJ.

JW, yes, Bubbles was once accessible from the path. It was fun to go for a stroll and stop for a drink. Also at that time they had televsions mounted above the bar so you could catch the latest scores, etc. I think they closed the path entrance when the Breaker's TGIF opened, but I may be mistaken.

A big +1 on this. I have been hoping for just this type of development for years. My wife and I spend quite a bit of time at Bubbles and would love something to do later in the evenings. A Margaritaville type restaurant/bar with live entertainment would be great on the beach. It's not as if that part of the beach is used for much of anything besides the occasional walker. Plus you could anchor the boat off the beach and wade in for a cool adult beverage.

Even though we live fairly close to the park, we usualy bring the RV over several times a year to stay at Camper Village and there are not many options to do in the evening outside of being in the park. (See Universal's City Walk).

Make the beach either free or lw price admission. If you were sitting on the beach, wouldnt you be tempted to go into the huge amusement park behind you!? I'm thinking that opening it up and not charging outrageous parking to get there will allow an increase in revenue.

The beach itself is free. Sure you have to pay for parking but go to any public beach along the Atlantic or Gulf coast and odds are you are going to pay for parking.

You can use the beach with either Cedar Point or Soak City admission. And how exactly would you not charge people parking to use the beach and still charge those using Soak City and Cedar Point? The beach isn't going to draw anyone into the park. There are free swimming beaches all along the North Coast area.

A better discussion is how to make the beach area more attractive and increase its value for resort guests. I agree with Pete on his thoughts.

Well for starters the park could allow its guests to actually swim in the lake.

Wasn't sure where else to put this, I just wanted to mention that the new "Food Truck" on the beach is such an excellent idea...and they serve fish! I didn't know about this little add until I saw it on FB via the Pointbuzz link today. Very cool.
