Cedar Point BrokenDown Why?

Maybe it was my own personal expierence, but it seems to me the past couple years Cedar Point has had a problem with Ride Maitenence. I am a Season Pass holder, and it seemed every time we went, Multiple rides were broken down, or trains were roped off in many rides. Did i just go on bad days, or is this becoming an epidemic? I realize rides break down from time to time , and thats expected and normal. For example, i went 6 times in July, and at least 4 rides were broken down for a good part of the day. Am I the only one noticing the extra break downs?

Why are you hash tagging?

I noticed rides to be broken down a little more often this year, especially Millennium but I think you're always taking that chance.

It has to be understood that these rides are running 12+ hours a day, every day for weeks and months. Maintenance does their best to have them open at all times. But it's just not possible. It's not an "infectious, spreading disease", or some kind of coincidence. It's just the way of the world.

There's no such thing as "going on a bad day" since there's no way to tell how a ride will behave on any given day. If rides were down while you're at the park, then tough titty. You have the luxury of taking multiple visits where as the vast majority of guests don't. It may suck, it may be inconvenient but it's something you have to anticipate and expect.

Maintenance can't be everywhere at once and things never work properly all the time. And with 72 rides, that's a lot of possible breakdowns. That's the only reason why there seems to be an "increase" in downtime (i.e. lots of rides, a limited number of maintenance men).

I still think CP has some of the best amusement park maintenance around and I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for all of them.

I'd say you went on bad days. When I went in August, everything, even Windseeker, was up and running.

I also would agree. I would see how things go this season when you are there. When you were there last season, were some of the rides down all day? I often find that even for rides which are down for a couple hours typically open back up for the majority of the day.

It has been pointed out on other threads in the past that CP is operating with fewer people in ride maintenance than what was employed in 1974. Whether this is because their is less variety in the type of rides in the park now (there was only four coasters, and a lot more flat rides then)or a cost cutting measure I'm not sure.

I went 23 times and I only experienced severe down time on 2 of those days.

I went around 12 times last year and the only issue I had was picking bad weather days. Dragster was the only ride that didn't run at all (on 3 trips) due to wind and/or rain.

It appears that confirmation bias is even more reliable than the rides.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

And he is complaining over 4 rides to around 50 rides for the average person.

I go multiple times during the season, and the only rides that are normally down when I go are mf, and ttd due to weather conditions.

There was one time last season where I thought, why did I come today? That came on the last day of the season. It was so damn cold and windy that almost every ride was closed. The only reason I went was I wanted to experience one last thrill of Cedar Point before the long 7 month off-season. I spent most of the day playing around at the Haunted House attractions.

Am I the only person here who read the thread title and immediately caught a @#$! earworm?

Oh, Cedar Point Park broke down
As we rode 'round and 'round
Each ride we'd miss
We'd moan and p*ss
As the midway band played
"Um-pah-pah um-pah-pah!
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah!

Oh, the Cedar Point Park broke down
To a halt, the coaster ground
The lights went low, we both cried, "Whoa!"
As the midway band played
"Um-pah-pah um-pah-pah!
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah!

What a waste, a horrible time
Broken rides for fifty-four ninety-nine!
Oh, the Cedar Point Park broke down
That's why you see me frown
I did my time, I stood in line
While the midway band played
"Um-pah-pah um-pah-pah!
Um-pah! Um-pah! Um-pah-pah!

Oh, the Cedar Point Park broke down!

(with apologies to Cliff Friend, Dave Franklin, and of course, my friends at Cedar Point!)

EDIT: If I could just figure out a way to get the cadence right and substitute "Y-M-C-A" or "Love Shack" for all that um-pah stuff...

That's great Dave!, Know how many of you actually know that song?

I am guessing that just about everybody here has heard it, at least in instrumental form. As a bonus, Kennywood frequently plays it on, ironically enough, their carousel band organ.

I still want to find a copy of the real lyric for the introductory verse.

True, especially if they have ever watched an old Warner Brothers Looney Tunes Cartoon........

Closing day 2012 was pretty epic; 15 ft. breakers off the lake skirting the hurricane causing the worst conditions I have ever seen in 200+ visits over my 30 years.

We were near the south CP&LE station and heard this rhythmic banging that seemed to come from no place in particular; walking further down the midway and its the Sky Ride cabins smashing into each other parked in the station.

Gemini down for wind a pair of valleys for Iron Dragon. Sand coming off the beach with enough velocity to get in your ears.

I know the saying that a bad day at Cedar Point is still better than a day at work, but the last day of 2012 was miserable. We got to the park around 9:30, and were home by 2:00.
