Cedar Point purchases Cleveland Road motel

The amusement park recently acquired Budget Host Inn for $1.045 million

Cedar Point has purchased another property along the Cleveland Road corridor. 

The amusement park recently purchased the Budget Host Inn, located at 2027 Cleveland Road, for $1.045 million. The newly acquired property is adjacent to Castaway Bay.

Very interesting.

Based on the map, Walt or anyone can you tell me what those parcels are between Butler Street and East Parish street?

Butler St. connects Rt. 250 to Cleveland Rd. It's the main route for the bulk of Cedar Point traffic. My guess is that their interest there is in improving that corridor.

How long have those lots been vacant with the old foundations still there? Google Earth only goes back to 1995, and it appears the buildings were already gone then.

What caught my eye is that it appears they control all the land to access the Chaussee.

Cedar Fair is buying up land left and right. Next up is the Magnuson motel on the corner of Butler and Cleveland Rd, the Econo Lodge on Cleveland Rd, and eventually the KOA on Cleveland Rd ;P

Maybe they'll use this new motel for employee housing. I wonder how many bunk beds they can put in one room?

I had booked a room there for WCO, and just got a call from CP resorts. They told me since they acquired the motel, it was no longer open, then proceeded to move me to Castaway Bay for the same price. Very nice of them, even threw in water park passes. I won't complain for $60

With the purchase of the motel, does anyone think it might be possible to see a Castaway Bay expansion?

That could be possible but I think they could easily use the space in the short term for overflow dorms (in June of 2018 some J1s were temporarily housed in castaway and the econo lodge on Cleveland rd) long term I see them relocating the driveway to the condos behind castaway and adding to the parking lot on the hotel side of Cleveland rd. Clearing up the overflow parking currently next to the maintenance shop on the south side of Cleveland rd. To be used by maintenance

I thought there was new housing already under construction. If not, I see a couple possibilities. This could be permanent employee housing. It could be temporary housing while new housing is built. Long term, what I'm thinking it will be is a parking lot for Castaway Bay. They have an overflow lot on the other side of Cleveland Rd currently. Moving the lot to the other side of the side street would be safer for guests, and also allow for the expansion of off-site maintenance.

Took a ride down Cedar Point Rd on Sunday since I was up in Cleveland working on Mom’s house. There is MASSIVE amounts of fill and large rock being added along the lakeside.

Yes there is construction of a new dorm currently going on.
