Coaster Mania Question?

I recently joined ACE and I noticed that on their web sites events page that CP had a Coaster Mania day last year. What exactly is Coaster Mania? Does CP have this every year? And more importantly is it worth attending?
If this information is somewhere else on this board or the official site, just let me know. Thanks.

Coastermania is an event held every year in May. There is exclusive ride time on most of the big rides and sometimes some guest speakers. If you like events it is a good idea, but if you go the weekend before the lines will probaly be shorter then during Coastermania.

I checked out Ron Toomer last year, the guy who designed Magnum, and that was it. I didn't go to any of the ERT events or the food. Of course, the week before might as well be one giant ERT, because the crowds are generally light.

I experienced my first Coastermania in June of this previous year.

The number of people was fairly overwhelming, I didn't expect that there would be that many people there.

If you have the time, spend a day two at the park beforehand, the crowds are light.

If I remember correctly, ERT lines were about 10-20 minutes, and were much less on the Thursday preceding Coastermania.

It is pretty cool being in the park at 7 in the morning, up until 1 the next morning. The food wasn't bad either (but of course we had the muffleheads :) )

I posted a short trip report:

The real advantage of CoasterMania is that you get a chance to meet lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of like-minded coaster nuts. --Dave Althoff, Jr.
Who said thats an advantage?

Is it May yet?

Y'know, Dan, you have a point there... :)
For me, most of the advantage of Coastermania is being in the park when it is closed and listening to a speaker or program if they have one. If you don't have a season pass, the tickets are greatly discounted and there is free food. Those things are an advantage.

As others have said, it has grown so much in recent years that the ERT lines can be very long. If you want short lines, make your own ERT and go on a weekday as early in May as possible.
Thanks for the responses. I was planning on going during the middle of the week after Memorial Day. Did this last year and the lines where minimal. It does not sound like there is much advantage to Coaster Mania, except being able to ride late at night, which would be cool.

My 1st Coastermania was this year also-was @ CP at 5:30am waiting to get in. Got to ride Raptor 1st train of the day front car-at 7am!! By 8:00 had flown Raptor 7x. Got to ride Mantis 4x in 20 minutes-then the gates opened to the public and all heck broke lose. Park was PACKED-rowdy-loud-obnoxious school kids-but they left by 5 so park thinned out again. The food wasnt that great (sorry Tyler) there was just something about the muffleheads laying with the hot dogs-chicken and potatoe salad-UGH. And the muffleheads themselves were an unknown "issue" till we got there-Good God those things were SOOOO annoying!! I know I had to eat more than my share of them when I was riding--ugh!!
I loved the ERT on Raptor and Mantis (hoping CP will have ERT on MF for 2000) and the ERT on MS and Magnum till 1am-
make sure if you go you stay overnight after--long long day!
I do plan on going again this year and will go the night before as well.
