According to the C.P. CoasterMania website, CoasterMania will be held on Friday July 13th this year.

Perhaps it has something to do with the ACE Spring Conference being held on May 18-20

Well find out what Robert Decker's surprise is:D possible coaster..?

I remember hearing that it was John H that will be "announcing" our "present". ;)

And yes it does Raptor0137.

Does this mean Coaster Mania will go back to being a one day event?

Much better like that in my opinion.

The impression I got was that it may just be 1 day for this year.

Oh yeah, you're right!

Good, no conflict with the Holiday World event!

Hmm.. That's very interesting. Looks like I'll need to completely re-think my trips this year, haha. But I do like that it's on Friday the 13th :)

So it looks like they will be announcing our new present then. I believe when he said that it was to a question regarding coasters so I think it's pretty obvious were for sure getting a coaster(s) for 2013.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

I'm newer to the cp scene. What exactly is this Coaster Mania everyone speaks of?

^^ I've never attended coastermania before, but from my understanding. You ride tons and tons of coasters all day long! :)

While details of the 2012 event haven't been posted yet, here is a PDF http://pointbuzz.com/docs/CoasterMania08.pdf of the event that took place in 2008.

It will give you the general sense of what to expect for the typical CoasterMania event.

It says you need to belong to a coaster club. What coaster clubs are there and do you need to pay to be apart of them?

Also, dont they have a ceremony thing where a bunch of different people talk?

Yeah you need to be apart of a coaster club to get in and get your Coastermania badge. There's typically a lunch with a presentation afterwards.

Is the lunch free?

It was the last time I went. That was in 2008, though. I haven't made a Coastermania in the last 3 years.

As Ben pointed out, yes you need to pay membership for the clubs (some are cheaper or more expensive than others). The link to the 2012 Coastermania page in the first post on this topic lists the accepted clubs and links to their websites. Here's the link again for the heck of it: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/coastermania/index.cfm

And in regards to your second question, the whole event is meant to get people to engage and celebrate a mutual love of Cedar Point and coasters in general. BUT the luncheon and Q&A/Film festival is meant to be an "ice breaker" of sorts. And since everyone is required to wear a lanyard to identify that they are part of the event (and most people tend to where them well before and after the ERT sessions and other events), it makes it easy to notice and engage people who you know are sharing a mutual interest.

Even if that is just a casual "Oh you're here for Coastermania too? Cool!", you never know where it can go from there. I've met a few of my friends through CM and that was over 5 years ago and we've been good friends since. So it's a great event to meet new people and feel among friends......even if you don't know them.

AND the luncheon is "free" with the admission to the event. Upon registering for the event, you will be given a lanyard and a voucher for the luncheon that you will be required to have and show before you can eat. That being said, the event itself is not free by any means. You need 3 things to get in.
1. Membership to a coaster club that is approved by CP. So there's some money spent there.
2. Proof of your membership when you arrive at CP for Coastermania. This is given to you by the club of you choice via a card of some type.
3. Some type of admission to Cedar Point. This is either through a regular pass/platinum pass or a regular CP ticket. And CP offers discounted tickets if you are attending Coastermania.

^thanks! On the 2008 itinerary posted above, it says you are allowed one non coaster club member guest. Will they be doing the same?

My girlfriend and I both have the platinum pass, so only one of us would need to e a coaster club member if I am understanding this correctly.

They have allowed a guest for as long as I can remember. I don't see them stopping it now.
