First X-Flight and now Steel Venom?

^This is true. GL passes scan at the gate at CP, and vice-versa.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

It is quite obvious what is going on here. The thrill park is pretty much history, and only the water park will survive. They just can't start removing major draws without replacements and believe people will come - that makes no business sense.

I expect the vacant land to morph into a on-site (perhaps year-round) water park with hotel. That eliminates the competition with the other parks, increases cash flow, and makes the most out of what they can relocate in the way of rides. On site stays create major $ because of the room, additional meals, and all sorts of extras.

From a business perspective it solves a lot of problems and keeps a few "dry" attractions for when it is less than ideal to put on a swimsuit.

Given the increased competition in Sandusky, and the need to diversify from the others - and let's face it, Soak City is landlocked - I wouldn't be suprised if it were moved to GL in exchange!

^^ & ^^^ Thanks guys, didn't know that. Been going to CP since '76 but this is my first season pass.

That would not make sense if the park had 700k without the water park and 700k WITH the water park... whats the draw there? Sure not the water park. People come for the rides AND the water park and if there is only one i could see that fail. People come to the park wait till the water park opens, go over there for a little, then come back to ride side. If the draw was only the waterpark then people woudlnt even go to the ride side. The park has be an amsument park for 120 years so people want it to be an amusment park... not a water park.

Sure it’s been an amusement park for 120 years but not under CF ownership plus things were different back then. It is pretty obvious what CF has in mind especially with the park not opening now until late May, which coincidently is the same time the water park opens.

Cedar point's opening day was set back also

CP set back their opening day by only one week. GL on the other hand set it back three weeks! And like I mentioned it is the same time the water park opens. I think with that kind of clue its pretty obvious what CF has in mind for GL.

Yeah, they plan to scale it back from SF's attempt to compete with Cedar Point.

The ride side has been in need of a scaling back for a while, Cedar Fair is just finally doing something about it.

scaling back by removing FUN rides, and keeping the crapy old rides that aren't fun at all. Seriously, steel venom was one of the best rides in the park as was x-flight, yet they removed these two and kept the hang and bang and mind eraser and double loop and raging wolf bobs (not fun now that it's smooth) and their crappy rappids ride grizzly run and the other crappy water ride, pepsi plunge, not to mention texas twister.

Someone recently was quoted in the paper and made a point i think applies here. (i have to paraphrase so i'll use a single quote)

'When McDonalds opens two stores within a mile of each other people don't question why they want to compete with themselves.'

I know this isn't burgers, but they aren't one mile apart either. Both parks successfully co-existed for years. In fact some argue that GLP was strongest when a major competitor was right across the lake.

The point is this. The market is the same. It's been the same for fifty years. If anything the quality of life and amount of disposable income is higher than it's ever been. To eliminate the rides would be a terrible decision and an admission that CF is unable to manage the property.

People never decided to go to one park or the other (and if they did they were to poor to goto CP as often as they would decide to save up and make one good trip to Sandusky). Just about everyone I know or have known in the area made at least one trip to parks every summer while growing up. Yes they compete in the same industry, but one does not nor will it ever directly threaten the other. People don't go to GLP because they are choosing CP instead. They don't go because the product in Aurora has been substandard for the price they were demanding. Simple economics. Lower the price or improve the product.

And as far as i know neither has been done for the 2007 season. And it looks like CF is getting ready to throw in the towel. But most of all, this has all the markings of a self fufilling prophecy to me.

And if CF does throw in the towel after all the talk about fixing it up, that will piss me off more than anything that Six Flags ever did to this park.

.....Or....... Change the product to a different draw.

Simple economics to me.

Actually, as was addressed when Cedar Point's operating hours were released, Opening Day pretty much falls in line with the Opening Days of the last 20 years or so based on when the first day of the month is.

2007: Millennium Force, 2008: Millennium Force ATL, 2009: Top Thrill Dragster
www.pointpixels.com | www.parkpixels.com

Just to announce it, because it seems as if no one noticed it, Steel Venom is offically gone. I got this from more then 5 people at a convention today that involved Geauga Lake.

OK... not OFFICALLY, but they stated that SV won't be operating for 2007... and if its not on the map? ;)

This is a real downer to me. I loved SV.. always my first ride at GL.

If its said to be gone then why is it still on the parks site then? I can say that Force or Dragster is gone off the map of Cedar Point but if its still on the site then its not really gone as i said that it was. Unless its gone off the site then its still at the park. The only coaster at Geauga Lake that is gone off the site is X-Flight. The coaster site that was said to have the map posted could of croped the map. The map is missing alot of buildings, some water slides, a flat ride near Steel Venom and a few other things. And since the map on the Geauga Lake site isnt out yet then only thing to do is wait and see if all this talk is true. Its easy to crop a picture with the right stuff on your pc.

First off, Dalefan, MF or TTD was not left off of the 2007 CP group sales map.

Secondly, the map in reference is put out by CF on their group sales page, not by some fan site that, as you say, could have "croped" the map.

Did you ever stop to consider that it may be correct? And I'm curious as to what flat ride over there is missing from the map that's out? Starfish is still on the new map right in front of Thunder Alley Speedway, where it's always been.

As a matter of fact, they've actually added some new buildings to the map where the track to the Bellaire Express once was.

Its on their site - Seems like they DID release it. :)

acctualy it was on cedar point's site

Actually when someone is using the term "they" in this case, they're speaking of Cedar Fair.

So it seems like they DID release it. :)
