Focus of 2017?

^ no, a family boomerang. Theyre building one at Phantasialand now called "Raik" and there's one themed to Ben 10 somewhere, too. I don't think there are any of them in North America.

I'm not sure how CP can reach 20 coasters by 2020. Granted, they could add a new kiddie coaster/wild mouse easily, but isn't the big speculation for 2020 RMC meanstreak? That would make CP still having only 19 coasters...

How does a certain amount of roller coasters have anything to do with a business plan?

CoasterCam's avatar

I'm absolutely baffled as to why people here think its so crazy. All they need is a dark ride ala Wonder Mountain or a small family/kiddie coaster and a bigger investment in 2020 and they have 20 coasters. They have 17,18,19, and 20 to do it. They have added a coaster related investment each year since 2013. Not saying it is a trend but it definitely shows that the park is more than willing to still focus on coasters. I can certainly see a dark ride, waterpark expansion, some type of Mean Streak investment, and another major coaster coming by 2020. I think something will happen with MS before 2020.

Did anyone like my Idea of Ricochet that I posted on the last page? I think that would be a great addition IF something is in fact going in with Challenge Park.

I wouldn't be disappointed with a Ricochet. I like the smaller Carowinds model. However I would worry about the capacity. It was my longest wait at Carowinds this summer.

I wonder what will come of this if it's true. Shoot The Rapids is reportedly coming down. This doesn't surprise me. It also makes me think of last year at this time when CP demolished Good Time Theater (look what's taken its place). What will take place of Shoot The Rapids? The 2017 ride?

I don't see that happening. Though the article sounds convincing. If it does however I will be very surprised.

Okay okay, maybe after looking back, it's not all that big of a surprise. I just didn't expect it THIS season.

Gotta wonder what news we'll hear about this Saturday from Winter Chill Out. Remember last year, we learned about Turnpike Cars leaving for good and rides like Calypso and Dodgem moving to Wicked Twister midway. Maybe we'll hear more about Shoot the Rapids leaving and other things.

CoasterKyle1121's avatar

Wouldn't that have to do more with 2016 than 2017?

I think what Bobb-z meant was there were changes for the 2015 season that were for a 2016 season attraction.

Bobb-z's avatar

What I meant was how in the last off-season (fall of '14, spring of '15), we learned of two attractions leaving. This eventually became Valravn.

Now, in this off-season (fall of '15, spring of '16), we've learned of Shoot The Rapids leaving. I wonder what might occupy that space in 2017.

That's what it looks like it's going to be, but would they really add an attraction in the STR location and do a Soak City expansion in one year? My money is on a Soak City expansion for 2017.

The announcement of Rougarou, Lakeside pavilion and Hotel Breakers was more exciting news than this year's news. I'm still excited for Valravn, but it just seemed like last year's changes were more exciting to go along with Rougarou.

I don't know, them new upgrades to the fresh cut fries stands is pretty significant. ;)

Shawn, losing STR is going to make all of this year's new stuff seem moot for you. For me, it existed just long enough to have some good memories riding it in spite of its issues. Just think about what they might put there in 2017 or 18 though - there's alot of land there for something better, and in the meantime you can enjoy the new bumper cars this year!

-Tyler A-

Agree soak city is and should be here to stay . But it needs a refresh. The two things I liked most about it are gone: the speed slides with the drops that would give you airtime if ridden correctly, and the beautiful scenery that was destroyed by the tacky colors painted on the flume.
Restoring those two things alone would greatly increase my visitation to soak city.
And some more modern slides, like a record-breaking Der Stuka style drop slide would definitely help
